Would guess Dolson and the administration consider Brownell a much more practical candidate than most on here. They are the ones that actually have a finger on the pulse of the situation. Those guys have to deal in reality, not fantasy land like these thread has become for the last month.

You're vastly overestimating the IU job and how it pertains to certain candidates. 

Shoot I really wish we could have gotten May or Stevens. They were my first choices. I've heard from some who think Drew won't leave, just built a house last year. I've heard that Brownell was never a serious candidate. Byington's buyout is 12 million. 

I have though heard about a coach who hasn't been in the game for a couple of years but is really good and might have a really cool agent. His name is Mark Turgeon.

I can buy Brownell as a fall back candidate . He has ties to the state . And Dolson could sit at the podium at this press conference and make an argument (a weak one ) but an argument that he fits the criteria put out by the athletic department at the beginning of the search . Especially if he makes a bit of a run this year . I’m in no way throwing my support and I think he would be right back here in 4 years if he’s the hire . Just too inconsistent to be successful at IU . 
 

but because the athletic department laid out certain criteria for their new coach to me that automatically disqualifies guys like Groce , Pitino jr , or McCollum . For different reasons they all don’t make the criteria and Dolson wouldn’t be adamant about showing. Program legend like Woodson the door to hire John freaking Groce, Jr, or D2 wonder boy.

If jobs at UNC, Kansas, UConn, UCLA, Syracuse, Louisville, Arizona,  or maybe Illinois, etc. -- schools that are generally considered better at basketball than football -- opened, would Brad Brownell be considered a candidate? Highly doubtful -- or if so, only because of recency bias (Clemson did make the Elite Eight last year and is having a great season this year).

But in 14 seasons at Clemson, Brownell had made four NCAA tourneys. 

If he weren't from Indiana, his name would never be mentioned in connection with IU.

Most reasonable posters, yes.  But some portray their guesses as fact & absolute, as you have done many times.  For example “Stevens & May aren’t coming” a few posts back from you.  There is a distinction between posting conjecture vs sourced/inside information, regardless of its veracity or whether one chooses to believe it.

UConn---hired Dan Hurley Wagner/Rhode Island

UCLA----hired Mick Cronin Cincinnati (after whiffing on 10-15 other candidates)

Syracuse---promoted Red Autry (no prior HC experience)

Louisville--hired Pat Kelsey Winthrop/College of Charleston 

Arizona---hired Tommy Lloyd (no prior HC experience)

Nobody would associate his name with IU if he weren't from Indiana.

Jeff Goodman, who has more sources than this entire board combined, has said Brad Stevens is NOT a candidate for the Indiana job. I'm going to believe him who has nothing to gain either way over a few self-important people who have been dead wrong about Brad Stevens on multiple occasions. 

Dusty May just signed an extension to remain with Michigan.
