Think about how long prior to that you have to go back in time to get before knight. I could be wrong but I doubt it Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk I like your new profile picture. I vote we all change our pictures to Dane Fife. Or maybe Brad Stevens.. coonhounds 1

coonhounds Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Give me fife all day long. Is he a huge gamble? heck yes. Can he win here I have no clue.Good difference is I thought archie would win for sure and have zero confidence fife can recruit or coach at a high level so he has to be the guy Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk mamasa 1

mamasa Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 I'm good w/ Fife. Legendary coaches have to start their journey somewhere Stuhoo, lillurk, Class of '66 Old Fart and 2 others 5

Hoosier Guy Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 The first thing to do is offer Stevens every single day until he says no with 100% certainty. After that, I like Nored, Shrewsberry, Fife, Drew and Beard
Bobman1 Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 I’m not a huge Fife guy but when Duke hires Scheyer to replace Coach K will any Dukies be jumping ship because Scheyer doesn’t have any great P5 HC experience?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners lillurk, Trish, theriverpilot and 3 others 6

mdiu28 Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 Don't understand the Fife love. He hasn't proven anything - so IU just hires him and takes a chance? That sounds like a perfect recipe for more misery and mediocrity. There's a reason he's only been an assistant for the past decade.
rcbowla Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 I'll toss a name I haven't heard yet. Randy Bennett. He's 58 and no clue on contract outside of he has extension until 26-27. I know he's pretty much only been a west coast guy. Anybody know much else?Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk
Magnanimous Posted March 3, 2021 Posted March 3, 2021 If Brad Stevens can be bought, he should be bought. Some coaches are just too established and not an option, like Coach K. We know who we want and until I see listed at the top of ESPN “Brad Stevens says he will never coach college again” you make it happen. HoosierTrav and Toothdr 2

When any business of note hires a home run they don't need an extended process. When someone that's relatively unproven is hired there are numerous candidates interviewed. I would expect that we conduct initial interviews with multiple candidates if we are looking for a younger hire. lillurk 1

He's been waiting for a great job to open up, obviously Michigan State. As a poster above, Bobman pointed out --- Duke is basically going to do the same thing with Jon S. lillurk, Indiana8585 and Bobman1 3

If he were as good of a coach as some on here believe and could take IU to the promise land, someone would have hired him in the past 10 years - IU included. I'm not disagreeing that we may need an IU guy but that CANNOT be the only determining factor. Seems like it is with Fife. There are plenty of assistants out there that have, and still are working under hall-of-fame coaches.

His games are must see tv if you’re in to coaching. But I do not believe he would have the slightest interest in a fishbowl like IU and I do not believe he would thrive there. Fife knows the B1G, he recruits the B1G talent, he's a IU guy, he could probably build a great recruiting staff, he can unite the Indiana fan base for once. We all thought we could land a big fish four years ago and we landed a mid-major guy. Nothing has changed, we've actually gotten worse and coaches have signed contracts elsewhere, there's really no indication that Indiana can hire a big-time guy this year. lillurk 1
