I have PTSD from Archie about hiring the “up and comer”

Archie’s average at Dayton was like in the 50ish range of KenPom….which is kinda where Dayton usually is. He didn’t make them much different from their baseline.  In retrospect, people overvalued him because of one tournament run. He just flat out wasn’t that good at Dayton.

McCollum? This is a dude who absolutely dominated his level of basketball the likes of which is almost never seen at any level. And he’s doing incredibly well at Drake. The guy clearly just flat out knows ball. You can’t win this much for this long and not know your ****. And at IU, he doesn’t have to worry about recruiting in the NIL era.

McCollum NEEDS to be the guy.

I’ll say this, while I don’t think Dolson will be able to pull May from UM, if he somehow does just imagine the vibe. I mean everyone would be behind that hire, a knock it out of the park home run, the excitement would be back, and the conference contention and tournament runs would follow. Talk about bringing back IU basketball— we’d be doing cartwheels here

To be also realistic, the last time there was an opening here Indiana landed on Mike Woodson. That doesn’t give me much hope for interests from big fish.

Dusty big time and I do think McDermott has proven himself well at Creighton — I can’t bring myself to call him old since he’s just a few years older than me….

Bo Ryan was an older guy when he went to Wisconsin…he did pretty well! I’d settle for 10-12 year guy with the coaching ability of McDermott!

This time around Quinn doesn’t have any pals he wants to install as head coach.  That should help us.

NIL wasn’t in place then.

I’ll be honest. I never did the research on the efficiency rating stuff of Archie’s teams before IU. I’ll take your word for it and based on the you’ve sold me on McCollum.

….my guess is a couple things.

1. Real smoke screen

2. Chris, AP, Jerry are all trying to find out what is really happening and post some sort of news later on. (Crickets right now)

3. They have been told by their sources to “shut up” and say nothing more because things were getting out too much, too soon.

4. If 3 is true, they may be telling them to play the smokescreen card too so it doesn’t get out of hand. (Crickets right now)

5. Chris, Jerry and AP were all fed smokescreens early on to think it’s Brad and really someone else.

JMO
GO IU!

I will say the silence from some of the insiders is getting palpable, now that we're ~2.5 hours post the Goodman bomb.

I hear you but think it’s also a timing issue and - realistically- a Quin B / BoT issue there. Buckner won’t be there to get his guy, that experiment failed miserably. Dolson has the keys now. I see this more similar to when Crean was hired - for what we needed then that was a good hire. We need better now, but the foundation is there.

I’m confused. Drake had a higher kenpom last year than this year. Their advanced stats are fine

How do you see that a detriment to the other candidates? Other than the hypothetical that a guy has bad feels that they wanted Brad over him there is none. And you can't honestly think that candidate that wants the job would be that butt hurt do you?

It has absolutely nothing to do with the other candidates being butthurt and everything to do with wasting time on a lost cause when he could’ve been cultivating relationships with other candidates. Last time he allegedly thought Stevens was a done deal, had no backup plan, and ended up with Mike Woodson.

Yeah I just check. Drake is 61st in KenPom. I was expecting better after that endorsement from truthhurts.
