I don't think anyone is arguing that he isn't a good coach, just that his career numbers don't really warrant the weird obsession with him. Even if you include his one season at LR (17-3) and his D2 time he is a career .520 coach in conference games with one final four and two elite eights. He is an excellent non-conference coach. He has done well in his  NCAA experience. He is not (as of yet) remotely elite in conference games at the P5 level. One (tie with KU) conference title.

He is a good coach. He is not (as of yet) the second coming of RMK and has baggage many folks are uncomfortable with. Dolson will have to weigh those things. I also think winning at TT and OM is hard, but GM seems to have done well at TT so who knows. I think good coaches produce good results, sometimes location is really overstated as a marker of coaching chops (I am skeptical of Collins and Brownell for example-- I think Beard would win more than either of them have at NW or Clemson respectively).

Anyways, doubt he gets beyond interviews and vetting since he'd be at UK or UL if he could, but I will trust Dolson even if I disagree with his candidacy for HC at IU.

FWIW and without comment: just being charged with something like that would keep you from being hired in my industry. It does not matter if the charges are dropped, they are visible on an FBI 10-year and would preclude someone from getting called back, much less getting to the interviews required for attaining the clearance needed.

Promise this will be my first and last Chris Beard post; with this framing, his career arc - just basketball - warrants said obsession. Pitino - one of the best college coaches of this era - agrees.

Taking TT to the Finals is like taking Minnesota to the Finals. You can check the records all the way back to the 70s; they were a decent program, but the success they've had since is built on what Beard did. And before he was fired at Texas (for all the reasons that have been litigated) he had them as literally one of the best teams in the country. On the basketball merits, there is nothing to suggest that he would be anything but excellent. The other things (sizable as they are) are the only things at issue.

When did Bob Knight beat his wife?

Is hitting your wife the only measure of what makes a terrible person? He choked multiple students, made a joke about rape, fought with a cop, etc. and we still worship him.

We have potential plane tracking and people are still measuring their own dicks over whether their view of Chris Beard is right or wrong.  Holy ****, both sides, please let it go.  Let's have some actual fun in this thread today.

Fun isn’t allowed in this thread anymore. You have to go to the college bball thread for that. It’s our penance until a new coach is hired.

Need a Stevens banger to bring out the posters to tell everyone how delusional the board is to believe Stevens would actually be interested...

Never thought I'd say this, but I'd rather have the Hall Monitor Squad trying to police the Stevens posts than the endless Beard morality debate.

Not to pour cold water on this, but based on a quick check, I didn’t see any return flights scheduled back home to either location on the books for today. That suggests that it might not be a coordinated business meeting.
Never go to Naples without staying a night or two on the beach...

People gloss over the fact that his fiance went in to the room where he was sitting grabbed his reading glasses and snapped them.  How does she have a bite mark on her arm?  Did beard just go up and bite her arm?  No she likely jumped on his back and he did it in self defense.

Man took a risk on crazy *****......it happens, understandable.....and it always almost certainly ends in chaos....

I’ll end with this. To the dismay of the small yet very loud minority, Beard would be supported and win here. He’s always been a viable candidate. I also trust Dolson, to make the right decision whoever the coach may be.

When he bit, strangled, bruised, and battered her. I don't care if it was "self-defense" or not. If you're immediate reaction is to lay hands on a person for breaking something a simple as your reading glasses, let alone your freaking fiance, you forfeit the right to coach basketball at Indiana. Anybody defending Beard's actions is a LOSER!

Let me preface this by saying I idolized Coach Knight, but I'm also very aware of his shortcomings. And while I have never seen anything about assaulting his wife, I do know that he did the following.

- Assaulted a police officer in Puerto Rico

- "Choked" Neil Reed

- Shoved an LSU fan

Those are a few I can think of.

And I'm not saying this justifies Beard, I'm just stating that Coach Knight had his own faults that probably wouldn't pass today's pre-employment background checks.

That doesn't even scratch the surface of how garbage of a human being Knight was. Like you said, I am not endorsing Beard or hand waving what he did. Just pointing out the hypocrisy that we as a collective fan base was, and still is ok with ignoring the terrible person Bob Knight was.

At least we don't have to worry about jets going to White Plains, NY this go around . Just hope the stay away from South Carolina (Brownell) and Iowa (McCollum) between now and the 1st week of April.

Maybe Scott and Brad are sipping Pina Coladas and watching Breaking Bad reruns for the weekend.
