So who do people think are currently actually in play behind the scenes. I’d bet it’s no one mentioned so far.

Yep. ... Word is Dolson has been in talks with Jackie Moon. And apparently, Bucker will sign off on it!

What he did at Georgia is irrelevant. Look what Les Miles did at Kanas after he left LSU.

How is what he did at Georgia irrelevant? He had them in the Kenpom 200s which is unheard of for a power 5 team. You could hire a guy off the street who could do better than that at a power 5 program.

He was already on the decline at IU and his tenure at Georgia only proved how bad it could have gotten.

Among Crean's notable accomplishments: He has the record for most losses in a season at 2 different schools, Indiana and Georgia.  And he finished 96 in KenPom and 5-13 in his conference with the #1 pick in the NBA draft.

Seriously, though, my son took a college class taught by one of Crean's former assistants who said that Crean was an excellent X and O coach who was very good at in-game adjustments and coaching his players to those adjustments during a game.  However, Crean had extremely poor organization skills that affected everything about running a program from recruiting all the way down to daily practice schedules, and that was never going to allow him to be a consistently successful coach at the highest level.  I think when most fans evaluate coaches, they just look at a guy's record on a piece of paper and don't know anything about these types of issues, but these issues make or break coaches at this level.

Only irrelevant because it doesn’t fit your agenda.

Look at what Self did at Kansas after leaving Illinois. Roy after leaving Kansas for UNC. I can cherry pick examples as well as you can

Those guys weren’t fired from their jobs. And they moved up or laterally at best (Williams). What Crean did at a football school in the SEC after essentially winning the B10 twice and going to three S16’s in 6 years doesn’t mean anything to me. It doesn’t change or negate what he did in Bloomington.

If the next guy has half the success of Crean,  I’ll be pleasantly surprised. But as history suggests, we’ll likely be looking for his replacement 4-5 years from now.

Not if they hire the right guy this time! They have a few to choose from, it’s just a question of if they will.

Crean actually did what he was brought here to do, resurrect the program!  He was not the long term savior and probably was retained a year or 2 too long.

Who is the right guy? Crazy that Crean is the only one to make it past year 4.

Beard would be my first choice, but he is guilty in the public eye to too many around here, so that won’t happen. I have a few others I think could work and against popular takes here, May isn’t one of them.

I really don’t think you think about the things you say.

Look at the results and the seasons.

Archie probably should have been gone after 2. Woody, most realized he needed to be gone after 3. His mediocre results bought him time to see what he can do. We’ve figured that out. Crean was fine. 1 great year. 2 really good years out of 6.

Look at Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, UNC (Their coach is on borrowed time), or any of the other top paying blueblood status teams. Their bad seasons are usually like our good seasons. Our ROI is the worst. I think the Admin was to blame for a lot of that. I think that’s fixed. Let’s for once since Sampson get a good coach and see what happens.

I’m all for getting a “good” coach. Who might that be? I thought Crean was “good” at IU, all things considered. Archie was a “good” coach when he was hired. There’s a large sect of this fan base who thinks IU still has the draw to hire whoever they want, when they want.

IU is going to end up hiring some up and coming coach because that’s all they can get (unless they want to drop the holier than thou card and hire Beard or Wade) and he’s going to get boo’d off campus sometime in year 2 or 3 because he doesn’t have the chops to handle a powder keg.

Only one guy I know would 100% come here and win big and that’s Pitino. He’s proven that at multiple schools over multiple decades. Not saying he’s an option but he’s the only sure thing in the game right now IMO.

I'd get behind slick Rick for sure

Right or wrong, good or bad, for better or worse...

I can’t imagine a realistic world in which Archie Miller is fired and Steve Alford isn’t the replacement.

It’s a projection, not a wish.

This was close, but unfortunately the reality was much worse! lol

He can coach. I'm not in the "need someone young" crowd but going on 73 is pushing it.

Why can’t we get someone that fits the profile of Pope or Kelsey?

Every bit the powder keg jobs. Every bit the up and comers. Attainable. Successful.

There are always going to be crazed fans that are never happy and there are always going to be up and coming coaches that cannot handle a pressurized job. But to say that up and coming attainable choices who can and have done well don’t exist? That’s objectively false.

We can revisit Kelsey and Pope 3-4 years from now, especially Pope. Declaring coaches successful 20 games in is effectively silly.
