Only one guy I know would 100% come here and win big and that’s Pitino. He’s proven that at multiple schools over multiple decades. Not saying he’s an option but he’s the only sure thing in the game right now IMO.

I'd get behind slick Rick for sure

Right or wrong, good or bad, for better or worse...

I can’t imagine a realistic world in which Archie Miller is fired and Steve Alford isn’t the replacement.

It’s a projection, not a wish.

This was close, but unfortunately the reality was much worse! lol

He can coach. I'm not in the "need someone young" crowd but going on 73 is pushing it.

I’m all for getting a “good” coach. Who might that be? I thought Crean was “good” at IU, all things considered. Archie was a “good” coach when he was hired. There’s a large sect of this fan base who thinks IU still has the draw to hire whoever they want, when they want.

IU is going to end up hiring some up and coming coach because that’s all they can get (unless they want to drop the holier than thou card and hire Beard or Wade) and he’s going to get boo’d off campus sometime in year 2 or 3 because he doesn’t have the chops to handle a powder keg.

Why can’t we get someone that fits the profile of Pope or Kelsey?

Every bit the powder keg jobs. Every bit the up and comers. Attainable. Successful.

There are always going to be crazed fans that are never happy and there are always going to be up and coming coaches that cannot handle a pressurized job. But to say that up and coming attainable choices who can and have done well don’t exist? That’s objectively false.

We can revisit Kelsey and Pope 3-4 years from now, especially Pope. Declaring coaches successful 20 games in is effectively silly.

You think that’s silly? To call the new, big money, pressure cooker , new roster, great system coach of UK a success so far?

You are making a completely transparently disingenuous argument.

1. First state that IU is going to end up hiring some up and coming coach because that’s all they can get … and he’s going to get boo’d off campus sometime in year 2 or 3 because he doesn’t have the chops to handle a powder keg.

2. Then, when given examples from two of the ten most pressurized jobs in the country that are succeeding greatly, dismiss those as ‘too soon to tell.” And “let’s get Wade!” As if Wade would be a sure or better-odds of success thing lol.

If you want to be the contrarian even in the face of all logic? That’s your prerogative. But it’s a bad look IMO.

We should’ve hired him back when we hired Woodson. He would’ve been an actual “bridge coach” because he, you know, wins. Everywhere he’s been. It’s too late now. I don’t have high hopes with this hire.

lol.

Pope’s 15-5. Guess who was 15-5 ranked in the top 10 in the country at this juncture last year? Yeah, that’s right the guy whose head UK fans wanted on a platter last year. That’s why they ended up with Pope. As always is the case with Kentucky, it comes down to March. We’ll see how UK fans view Pope heading into next season will they inevitably bow out in the R32 here next month.

As far as Pat Kelsey goes, he’s done an admirable job so far. Good for him. There was literally nowhere to go but up for that program. He seems like a good dude, we’ll see if he can build and sustain any type of success.

And as far as being a contrarian? Nahh, I’m just being a realist. To succeed at IU as a coach, you need:

a) high level basketball acumen

b) the personality, the chops, the demeanor to handle the noise.

You need both, you aren’t goin to succeed with just one. Will Wade, in my opinion, has both…that’s why he’s my top choice as he is one of the few coaches with A and B who actually take this job.

And I’m not saying there isn’t a mid-major out there who doesn’t have it, but there are few and far in-between. It’s a crapshoot.

Somehow you worked little bits of truth into this post.

Progress.
