He can coach. I'm not in the "need someone young" crowd but going on 73 is pushing it.

My Raiders just hired a 73 yr old! LOL

We can revisit Kelsey and Pope 3-4 years from now, especially Pope. Declaring coaches successful 20 games in is effectively silly.

You think that’s silly? To call the new, big money, pressure cooker , new roster, great system coach of UK a success so far?

You are making a completely transparently disingenuous argument.

1. First state that IU is going to end up hiring some up and coming coach because that’s all they can get … and he’s going to get boo’d off campus sometime in year 2 or 3 because he doesn’t have the chops to handle a powder keg.

2. Then, when given examples from two of the ten most pressurized jobs in the country that are succeeding greatly, dismiss those as ‘too soon to tell.” And “let’s get Wade!” As if Wade would be a sure or better-odds of success thing lol.

If you want to be the contrarian even in the face of all logic? That’s your prerogative. But it’s a bad look IMO.

We should’ve hired him back when we hired Woodson. He would’ve been an actual “bridge coach” because he, you know, wins. Everywhere he’s been. It’s too late now. I don’t have high hopes with this hire.

lol.

Pope’s 15-5. Guess who was 15-5 ranked in the top 10 in the country at this juncture last year? Yeah, that’s right the guy whose head UK fans wanted on a platter last year. That’s why they ended up with Pope. As always is the case with Kentucky, it comes down to March. We’ll see how UK fans view Pope heading into next season will they inevitably bow out in the R32 here next month.

As far as Pat Kelsey goes, he’s done an admirable job so far. Good for him. There was literally nowhere to go but up for that program. He seems like a good dude, we’ll see if he can build and sustain any type of success.

And as far as being a contrarian? Nahh, I’m just being a realist. To succeed at IU as a coach, you need:

a) high level basketball acumen

b) the personality, the chops, the demeanor to handle the noise.

You need both, you aren’t goin to succeed with just one. Will Wade, in my opinion, has both…that’s why he’s my top choice as he is one of the few coaches with A and B who actually take this job.

And I’m not saying there isn’t a mid-major out there who doesn’t have it, but there are few and far in-between. It’s a crapshoot.

Somehow you worked little bits of truth into this post.

Progress.

For Wade you forgot:

c) A skilled criminal defense attorney.

Dennis Gates would kill it at IU

He’d kill anywhere with resources. I’ll tell you what, I watched that dude all last year and every single thing that could have gone wrong for that team did and that guy did not flinch. He was completely accountable. The guy is just a grinder.

What crimes has Will Wade ever been charged with, let alone been exonerated from?

Your character assassination of Will Wade for breaking an NCAA rule that is no longer a rule is frankly disgusting. Grow up.

A realist wouldn't talk about Wade in conjunction with the IU job.

As President of the previously often-mocked Dennis Gates Fan Club; I give you these posts from the distant past:

Gates' team had a team GPA of 3.43 this year. Nine players made the Fall Academic Honor Roll. Eight made the Dean's List and one made the President's List.

In the 2 1/2 weeks since Dennis Gates got the Mizzou job, he has:1) signed the #1 JUCO in the country, 2) gotten the de-committed highest rated signee at the school since Michael Porter to re-commit, and,  3) hired Charlton Young, one of the flat out best recruiters in the country, away from FSU and got the notoriously cheap Mizzou AD to fork over 600k a year to do it. Yeah, that hire’s probably gonna work out.

Saying it’s inevitable that Kentucky loses in the R32 is a hot take for sure. Doesn’t have a very good track record at predicting the future.

UK’s analytic measures aren’t nearly as good as some make them out to be. They’re a subpar defensive team that’s over-reliant on the 3 point line, a recipe for disaster in the tournament. That and Mark Pope has been a disaster in the tournament.

That’s because he had a skilled criminal defense attorney!

And if you post personal attacks like “grow up” against any poster again, including doing so at a moderator, both Indyresident16 and your current handle will reside in the BtownBanners dustbin.
