Stability should be earned; do what they're paid to do they'll have stability; if not they won't.  Not having a tourney appearance in 4 years doesn't deserve stability.

I understand the fan's perspective, I'm giving you the coaches. Most coaches don't want to uproot their families move to a new town and maybe looking for a new job in 4 years. We already know we won't be any good next year so then you have 3 years to turn it around, get some recruits or your time is slipping away.

Also we were in last year so that argument doesn't hold up. Say 1 tourney appearance in 4 years.

13 years as a Division 1 coach, 10 of those years at Power 5 schools. Total of only three tournament appearances. No thank you.

In fairness, he wasn't/isn't coaching basketball powerhouses.  No offense UT or Mizzou.

True, but Rick Barnes thinks Tenn is a powerhouse.

And it is with him in charge.

Weird irony about Cuonzo.

A few years back, Painter was flirting with Mizzou (though it seemed more of a ploy to get more $$ from PU). Had he bolted, PU was poised to hire Cuonzo -- at Missouri State at the time.

In the end, Painter stayed at PU and Cuonzo eventually ended up at Mizzou.

That isn't the only thing Porky was flirting with...

Porky was doing some porking too. "Hey dad I think he's going to pork her" "NO Russ he isn't going to pork her" Great movie.

No tournament appearances and no season above .500 in the Big 10 in four years. T-6th, 9th, T-10th, and 10th(currently) in the conference would get you fired at a host of other jobs. Then you add in the fact that we have the worst recruiting class in the entire conference for next year. Like you said, stability should be earned. Archie has failed to earn it. If a coach doesn't want to come here because we fired a guy with Archie's results, I don't want them here either. You don't get to keep your job when you fail to meet even the bare minimum standards. That's true in any field.

Totally agree. I don't get the 5th year argument. Miller has been very consistent in his 4 years here. Why does anyone think year 5 is going to be any different? We know who he is. He may be a much better coach than he is showing here (I tend to think he is), but how does that help us?

Yes, we would have squeaked into the tournament last year, but how did he build on that? We are always in the "last four in, first four out" conversation. Is that what we want? I certainly hope not.

If the coach is worried he will be leaving in 4 years because he is getting archie miller results we don't want him. We need a coach that has confidence in his abilities and not already thinking they won't last. I question though how many big time coaches doubt their abilities as you are suggesting.

I’d only support a 5th year if there were signs that next year would be an improvement. Those signs just aren’t there. Our best player (by far) is probably leaving. Our recruiting class coming in isn’t just bad, it’s the worst in the entire conference. Defense is supposed to be our strength, but this year it has been pretty bad. There is nothing Archie can point at and say “I deserve to stay for a fifth season because of this.” The only reason it’s even a question is because he has a $10 million buyout. If the question was solely based on performance he’d be gone the second the season ends.

- TJD could stay and actually should stay if he wants to keep playing in America and not Turkey

- Al can come back. Look for him to transfer this year though.

- Rob might have a come to jesus moment.

- Race / Frank will be back and will hopefully improve with our freshman.

- Joey is back more than likely

- Transfer market

All hope isn't lost but there's a chance we could put a team together next year. A lot of things would have to work in our favor clearly but hey, crazier things have happened in the history of basketball right?

I don't think his value is that much to warrant another team engaging him in a transfer.

He's a streaky shooter and can't play defense. Maybe he transfers to a smaller school that's all I can see for him.
