He doesn’t say locked up. He says his AD THINKS it’s either Stevens or May.

But with that said, the guy just seems like a winner. 4 (many people think it would have 5 the Covid year) National Championships and then a historic year in his first year at Drake tells me McCollum has something special and can flat-out coach. 

Obviously there are proven guys I'd take ahead of him, but I think if you can coach, build identity and culture, and are a winner, then you should be able to win at IU. 

He's not my #1 choice by any means, but if the top guys aren't interested, I would very much be in favor McCollum over some of the retread (Buzz, Cronin) guys or someone like Brownell.

McCollum seems to have an "it" factor. 

I do wonder some about Pearl and how true the rumors he would have come last year were. Maybe he’d wanna finish his career resurrecting IU. I think it’s probably a fantasyland chance, but if Cig has shown anything Bruce has plenty of tread on the tires. I’d of course like the next coach to be here until I retire, but I’m fairly convinced Pearl would have us in a FF or two before he hung it up

Yeah, I haven't ruled Pearl out in my mind. If Insiders were right that he was locked up last year (if Dolson had been allowed to make a move), then I'm not sure what would have changed so much in 1 year that those same people aren't really discussing him?

I get Auburn is having a good year, but they were good last year and Pearl probably knew last year that he had another good Auburn team coming back.

Pearl (along with Stevens) would be top of my wish list if I thought he was realistic. I just don’t think with Auburn rolling he leaves now. Maybe, like you said, he has some desire to coach at IU to resurrect basketball before he retires. I wish we had hired him instead of Archie and certainly instead of Woody.

Which school is he with?  If with another school and they think we have Stevens locked up that is certainly new info

We don’t know. He doesn’t disclose that. But he has great insight into the search process and is definitely a valued poster. And I’ll say this again, he does NOT say locked up. He says his AD THINKS it’s either Stevens or May. Nothing for sure.

They don't really have any inside info I don't think.  But said his AD thinks it's Stevens as nothing else about our search makes sense at all.
