Why did Collins say Northwestern would NOT accept an NIT or Crown invite? Is it because of the injuries, or does he know he is moving on? They don't turn down invites!

Is it IU or another job? UVA?

Latest rumor is mutual interest with Nova if they fire Kyle Neptune .

No reason to play in tourneys with the portal here to stay. Gives coaches and players a chance to get started on a new chapter instead of playing in a meaningless game(s).

Indiana will conclude their season Sunday if they miss out.

Wasn’t the deal with the Crown or some other tournament a guaranteed payout for the players or the winning team like TBT? I thought that was the draw.

So will both of those tourneys die off? Or be filled with low majors?

The last 4 Crean years and Archie years buried most of my interest. The comical Woody hire plus watching TJD renewed some interest. Honestly coach search season has gotten me through the last two.

If Brownell comes in and hits the ground running then great. If he is going to do a slow build like at Clemson I’ll be mostly out.

This program is probably already mostly dormant unless Dolson has an ace up his sleeve.

You hated our last Big 10 championship and Sweet 16 run?

Interesting resume comparison between two guys in the news today - Fran McCaffery and Brad Brownell. Both are high major coaches for 15 years,  at similar level jobs.

McCaffery: 8 NCAA Tourney appearances. 6 seasons finishing in Kenpom Top 25. Best season, NCAA 2 seed. Never been past Round of 32.

Brownell: 5 NCAA Tourney appearances. 4 seasons in Kenpom Top 25. Best season, NCAA 4 seed (projected this year). One Elite 8, one Sweet 16.

I'm taking Fran's resume, despite the lack of tourney results. Do this two years ago and it was not even close in favor of Fran. Is IU really going to hire a guy who has delivered worse results than Fran McCaffery?

You make a good case for Fran. Make it happen Dolson.

One more thing to note that makes this a unique situation. The Celtics are currently selling a controlling stake of the franchise. They may want to wait for the new owners to get their own GM.

This has always been the most compelling argument.  You can see what the change in ownership has done to the Mavericks, and you can see who's getting the blame for it, their GM NIco.  Getting out now gives him a free ticket to go back for big money into another GM job, no matter what he does coaching.

The Celtics as constructed have nowhere to go but down.

Yes. Creans coaching failures were beyond obvious by then. It was not fun to watch for me. Seeing him bump his head up against his ceiling one last time was not something I cared to watch. And I largely didn’t.

I would have much rather been onto another coach by then in search of our 6th banner. I understand some around here hold a certain affinity for Crean and/or that team. I do not.

As much as I Hate Cronin part of my reasoning why he wasnt the guy is Dolson wasn't paying 16-10mil to hire him.  Same logic goes for Brownell.  I can't fathom paying anything just to hire him, he's not that guy.

I think Cronin and Brownell are both “good” coaches but in no world would I think either one was a good enough coach to justify their buyouts, especially on top of whatever “settlement” payout Woodson will likely get (as of April 1st Brownell’s would be $8.33 million and Cronin’s would drop to $10 million).

And for those who want to point to Allen’s buyout, that was a markedly different situation-the donors weren’t coming up with the $15 million then so they could come up with another huge bag in order to pursue a “name” or “elite” coach, they signed a coach who was making less than $1 million a year in his previous job.

If I were a big donor and Dolson came to me needing a bag for a buyout of a coaching candidate, it would need to either be a less expensive, or more impressive, name than Brownell or Cronin, or their  specific buyouts would have to be negotiated significantly lower.
