I agree Banks is a great kid. That is not relevant to the question of whether he is ready to start. Apparently the coaches do not believe he is ready to start or they wouldn't be trying to land a player to start ahead of Banks.

I understand that but I also think there's a reason he's here and Bates isn't. I think he'll play a lot, starter or not.

Watching Anthony Walker's  2020-2021 highlights, he looked pretty impressive that year. Sorry I'm not real knowledgeable when it comes to posting videos or anything else to be honest. Lol

There are a few reasons Bates isn’t here and that has to do with his girlfriend, daughter, need to be closer to home and need for NIL cash to support his family.

Those were certainly factors from his standpoint but from IU's side the factor is his subpar play over his 2 seasons. I think it was a mutual parting of ways.

Anthony Walker to Indiana.

Someone help me here. Averaged 2.3 pts last year at Miami….looks like purely a bench depth move.

Can he shoot? At 6’9 what type of player is he?

EDIT: went back and watched some highlights. He looks athletic, long. Can dribble and attack the rim for his size (good spin move). Form on the limited shots looks good. Don’t see why he couldn’t up those avgs. for us next year.

Athletic 4, can bounce it and get to the tin. Willing jump shooter but not a good one. Very good in transition and a strong finisher (75% at the rim per Torvik’s play-by-play data).

Capable defender, with the quickness to guard on the perimeter. Upped his block% to over 5% last year (Race Thompson territory).

Two recent Rutgers PFs show up in player comps: Montez Mathis and Mawot Mag. He’s better than them off the dribble but I think those are fair for type.

Almost 10 ppg as a freshman.  Has some talent and good athleticism.  If Reneau/Ware have foul-injury problems, our backups should be able to play B1G ball.

It’s easy to overrate depth but there’s something to be said for having guys who you can rely on when you need to. I think of this most recent Michigan team: capable frosh PG, big minute guys in Bufkin, Jett, Dickinson, and a massive hole at PF much of the year. Walker could’ve been the sort of guy who was the difference in a couple games and got them to the tournament.

That was his sophomore year when he started a lot of games and his mpg was way up. His junior season his mpg dropped but he still averaged about the same points per minute which worked out to ~14 points per 40 minutes. Last season his numbers dropped off a bit but hopefully he can get back to his sophomore/junior year production or better.

4 seasons in the ACC make it more of a sure thing that he'll be able to play well in the B1G rather than the risk of a player moving up in competition from a mid- or low-major school.

Seems like a solid pickup. Numbers-wise he looks like a replacement for Geronimo but he's taller and is a better perimeter defender.

So do I. The program got noticeably slower and less athletic in the Archie years. Good to see it's being addressed.

I just know the last few years watching the SEC and big 12 and the type of Ayers in those conferences. I then look at IU and the big ten and it is totally different game. I see those teams having long athletic wings and forward and don't see much of that here.  We seem to be getting better in that category with Ware,Walker,Banks,Gunn and Newton. If we can get Mgbako that would get us to the point that we can compete athletically with those teams.
