Bako is still a "college" 4. He really should be a wing imo particularly for his shooting but he's more in the mold of a Watford - a stretch 4 - agree on adding 2 point / combo guards (hopefully one as a very solid on-ball / playmaking guard as that's needed immediately - how much Cupps will grow by next year remains to be seen.

Bako and Malik up front, Trey paired with at least one strong on-ball guard and a legit shooting guard is a strong lineup - if our dead man walking coach finally encourages outside shooting. We're losing an outstanding, rangy forward who can and did step outside, but NOT bringing in yet another post player / big would maybe get us playing the way we should be, use the damn perimeter, play quicker, player smaller.

The problem with Malik is that he simply isn't well rounded enough. He's a great scorer, but doesn't do much else well. He can't defend the 4 adequately, but won't be able to stay on the court if asked to be a rim protector 5 in Woodson's system. So I don't really see any way to make him fit defensively barring a huge leap forward. And without considerable defensive improvement, I don't see how this squad takes the giant step forward necessary to compete for conference or national titles.

So given all that, plus the fact that Malik transferring would give Dolson a bit more ammo to move on from Woodson this off season, and I think that a Reneau transfer might be in the program's best interest. Which I hate to say, because he seems like a great kid.

Josh Cohen, Massachusetts.  6'10" F/C.  Averaged 15.9 points and 6.8 rebounds.  Previously played at St. Francis (PA), averaged 21.8 pts and 8.3 rebounds the year before.

Javon Small and Jalen Blackmon. Both Hoosier natives who could get big $$$ to come here. Add a rim protector who can play 20-25 mpg and you can go a variety of line ups with either Galloway as a 3rd guard or coming off the bench.

I would rather MM play the 4 and Reneau the 5 but split time with the other 5 who is a rim protector and those two rarely see the floor together

Saw where he clarified on X he wasn’t “officially in the portal” (direct words) which I thought was an odd way to word it. Guessing he’s waiting to see who OK State hires?

I’m sure they’ll prioritize different things, but this is the sort of frontcourt piece I’d love to see them find. 5th yr stretch 4 who plays big enough to average almost 9 boards while shooting 37% from 3 on almost 6 looks a game. Saw him have a nice game against FAU earlier in the year. If you want to create real operating room for Reneau without playing Mgbako as a more or less full time 4, a kid like this is the ticket imo.
