Just for ghits and shiggles:

Dug, Trey, MM, Rooths, and Reneau might put a raise in my brow.

Its interesting but the rim protection is still a problem. I do not see how we trust MR to log major minutes at the 5 and stay on the court. It somehow seemed like he cleaned the fouls up a little but he still basically averaged a foul out per 40 minutes lol I think it was like 4.4 fouls per 40.

We had the best rim protector in the conference this year and our defense was statistically terrible. Maybe rim protecting is overrated. Your comment on Reneau foul issues is spot on though.

Too many defensive break downs with guys guarding outside of their natural positions. It took well into late January for MM to get comfortable guarding at this level and Reneau simply cannot guard out to the perimeter.

Part of me believes it would be better for IU and MR to part ways. But then I remember that we would just get another post player to replace him with in the starting lineup to have 2 post players starting.

Not singling you/this POV out, but I can't see it at all for next year really.

I do agree it's an awkward lineup fit, pairing him with MM and a rim protecting five. But his post scoring can be elite at it's best and he made a big leap in the offseason this past year. If he makes a similar one this offseason, he could have a great junior year. You'd hope by his 3rd year in the system, he'd be better at making passing reads on offense and smarter about some foul trouble.

I do not think the odds are high at all that we'd be able to replace MR with a player as skilled as him/knowledgeable about how this staff likes to do things. Especially when we are about to have so much roster turnover, I am valuing him very highly. Hope the staff is too. He was conference honorable mention wasn't he?

He is definitely talented. And I’m not wanting him to leave, which is why I said part of me. I can see how it would be a benefit. But that’s not the style we are going to play. So we will need his post play. Hopefully he can work on his ft shooting as well.

You can't cut bait on every player who has flaws. MR had a good season, teams just started packing the paint and doubling him and he started to force the action a lot. But he's a very good player who's only going to get better. Wanting to get rid of him is silly.

You're right. However, if we return Galloway, MM and Reneau in our starting lineup next year how much better can we possibly be? I find it hard to believe we are going to upgrade at Ware's position.

I think the key is at point guard, 100%.   Need someone to keep us in the flow of the game and distribute the ball.  Galloway is a great player but not a true point guard or 2 guard.  MM is a true wing but never got the chance in our offence to come off screens for set plays to hit shots.  I would keep all of those guys and add in two point / combo guards who can distribute the ball, make shots and create their own shots.

I would love to see what MR and KW could do if we had shooters that made the defense play out and not pack in the paint like they do us now.

I don't know if you part ways with him but I would agree that he's not the type of player that you can play alongside another big for 30 minutes a game. And that's an honest conversation the staff probably needs to have with him.
