Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 One of the worst defenses for Archie that I've seen is that "Brunk was out so TJD had to play out of position." TJD is a center. The TJD-Brunk was already shown to be absolutely awful. HoosierFan1994 1 Quote
LamarCheeks Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Was two years always TJD's plan? Or is a fractured relationship with Archie playing a big part in a decision to likely bolt? Just wondering -- say we do part ways with Archie and TJD hits it off with the new coach, any chance he stays? Don't know how far-fetched this might be -- I was just curious if this in any way was a possibility. Quote

coonhounds Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 So the feel today is archie stays another year? And we wait till late April to fire him? Lol not happening. They have to fire him I don't care how much the buyout is. If they wait till next year it will be eye opening as to why the program is in the crapperSent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk IUrocker and OldBuddy67 2 Quote

Fun times to be an IU fan! So so true! It's a constant back and forth, until the day it either 'is or isn't.' It's not nearly as fun as looking forward to the tournament, but it's all we've got for now. Class of '66 Old Fart, coonhounds and MemphisHoosier 3 Quote
IUrocker Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Yeah I’m trying to remember the days leading up to Crean being gone...wasn’t there word that there was a decent chance he was staying and people who wanted him out got panicky? Or were the winds all blowing in the same direction with him that he was for sure gonna be gone at this point of that season? Quote

On the morning of the day he was fired, someone on Twitter (forget who it was, might have been someone with ITH), said "all signs point to a return." Yeah, there was quite a bit of panic in the days leading up to it. Things seem pretty quiet now, in comparison. IUrocker 1 Quote

Thanks...with it being quiet now, like u mentioned, do you think that makes it lean one way or another or it probably just doesn’t mean anything? Quote

Could mean nothing. I fully expect him back, not that he deserves it, because there have been no signs of the university caring much how the basketball program does. HoosierAloha 1 Quote

I think 4 years ago, there was a lot more noise because Crean loved coaching here and didn't want to be fired. I always thought the "soft landing" nonsense was BS. Crean won big games here, and seemed to genuinely embrace where he was. I've never gotten that vibe from Miller. If he has any affection toward this place, he has a funny way of showing it. I think he realizes he's in over his head and has been for some time, but factors like pride and $$$ are making it more difficult for him to step away. IUrocker 1 Quote

From time to time I would see Crean out and about, and often heard of people having interactions with him. I personally had a couple. Now there may be some on here that have, but I personally have not heard of anyone having any interaction with him in the community, let alone even seeing him. I've never got the impression he was invested in this community, which is a shame. I wonder if some of that disconnectedness is resulting in the fan base's reaction. A lot harder to can a coach that is involved in the community and making an effort. Quote

He was usually in the sports section looking for a how-to guide on beating a 2-3 zone. sweetpain, JSHoosier, 323SGrant and 14 others 8 9 Quote

Crean may be loved working here, but most who worked with him would have driven him to the airport to get him out of town. His son Riley played several sports so that is why you saw him out more than Archie. I don't believe Archie's daughter plays sports. His wife doesn't announce who she is, like Crean's wife did everywhere she went too. Quote
Chris007 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 About a week after Crean was hired my wife & I were eating at Red Lobster. Tom walks in stops in the middle of the dining room & yells HELLO EVERYONE!! I thought to myself just go get me another cheese biscuit. HooHooHoo22, ALASKA HOOSIER, Bowhunter and 3 others 4 2 Quote

His house is about 4 houses down from Crean's old house which might still be for sale. MemphisHoosier and coonhounds 2 Quote

He's not from Indiana, and I think it's somewhat ignorant to believe focusing on one state is the right move in 2021. I’m glad he realized the importance of recruiting well in Indiana but he also realized he needed out of state talent. The issue is that he spent a lot of time and effort on out of state guys but landed very few of them. In 2019, as an example, he offered 23 kids and 18 of the 23 were from out of state (none of the 18 out of staters committed to IU). He has gone after a slew of out of staters, albeit with varying degrees of effort, such as Garland, DJ Carton, Bouknight, Watford, Ramsey, Cross, Garcia, Morton, Mohammed, Miller, etc etc. Quote

He seemed nice the one time I got to meet him. He signed my dad's leg at Hoosier Hysteria in his second season at IU. It sucks he couldn't be more consistent in winning and recruiting.
