We took a #25 ranking into Purdue in late January the year we had Romeo. He spent most of the game standing in the corner and scored 4 points on our way to a double digit loss.

I recall that during the home Purdue game the same year, IU ran one (1) empty side ball screen with its two best players: Romeo handling and Juwan picking and rolling. It got IU a layup or dunk in the first half.

They didn’t run it again, and lost 46-48. They shot 15/55, turned it over 16 times.

We saw some terrible offense for too long.

We only moved up to 31st in votes from 35th last week.  I don't know that beating Illinois will even move us in.

It might depend on how we win that game (if we win). We've beaten two ranked teams one by a little and one handily?

Those not so great losses on the road to a bad Syracuse team, a bad PSU team, and not showing up at home to Michigan have the most to do with us not being ranked. Take away the two bad losses on the road and show up at home against Michigan and we're probably around 15ish.

The bracketmatrix has updated.  103 available posted brackets, IU in all 103 at #27 overall.  Based on the overall matrix, IU as a 7 seed would play 10 seed Wake Forest.

Current matrix overall says that Big Ten doesn't really have bubble teams, unless you count Michigan which is in the tournament on only 20 of 103 bracktes.

Purdue:  1 seed (4th overall)

Wisconsin:  3 seed (10th overall)

Michigan State:  4 seed (13th overall)

Illinois:  5 seed (17th overall)

Indiana: 7 seed (27th overall)

Iowa:  7 seed (28th overall)

Michigan in the tournament on 20 out of 103 brackets (5th team out), Minnesota in 2 out of 103 brackets, Rutgers in 1 out of 103 brackets.

I agree with you that according to the matrix the big ten doesn't have any bubble teams. But I think Iowa is certainly headed in that direction.

And it is funny because IU is their only quad 1 win. If I am Iowa I don't feel to comfortable about that. At this point they only have 3 games left against teams in the field, and two of them are on the road (@OSU, and @Illinois). They do have MSU at home which will probably be a must win game for them.

I'm curious why Iowa is such a NET darling right now. Only dropped 1 spot after losing to Penn State last night. They're 1-5 in Quad 1 games.

My guess is they built their efficiency up a lot  during the non conference against weaker teams.  They were smashing teams and scoring over 100 in at least 4 games.    Neutral court win against Utah St and road wins at Virginia and Minny have helped.   Now that they are playing better competition and their efficiency is dropping I would guess their number will drop some more.   Even if their NET is good the committee will seed them to select them on what’s on their team sheet.   NET might be in the 20’s but their resume is that of a 9 seed as of today

If we take care of business and beat the teams we should beat from here on out we are a tourney team.  And unlike previous years I actually have the confidence in this team to do it.

If we win the games @Northwestern, Maryland, @Minny, and Rutgers then we don't NEED any of the games remaining against ranked teams.  Though I'd certainly prefer to win the 2 remaining home games against Illinois and Wisky.

At Minny and at NW will both be tough. Might have to settle for one 1/2 of those. That'll bring a melt-down but not any real problem.

I'll be disappointed if we don't grab a win against one of the two ranked opponents at home.

Also think we should win one or two against the tougher road opponents.

Gotta win some of those home games against tourney teams. If we only win those four we’re sitting at two wins against tourney teams. While we’ll be dancing we should do better.

I want to see us continue to improve. If we continue to improve the wins and losses will take care of themselves. Just keep getting better.

Generally agree but it doesn't help to be missing Rob, hard to continue to get better without one of two primary point guards.

That said I am optimistically thinking we go 5-4. I won't be thrilled if we go 4-5, but if we can -- please -- just finally take care of Wisc at home, within either 4-5 or 5-4, I'd be fine with that. I can't stand, hate, am disgusted with, really annoyed with, Wisc.

Did Trey Galloway play against and harass Brad Davison in our Madison matchup against Wisky?

Didn’t think so.        ;)
