Fire or ‘Way to Go!’ Tom Allen?

If Penix continues to produce, I'm not sure we get four years with him...good problem to have.

I’m very happy we have him, but he’d have to make significant and unforeseen leaps in development beyond his current trajectory to be considering leaving early.

In my opinion, Tom Allen is not a good coach for the job.

Also in my opinion, you should always give a football coach four years to evaluate where the program is.

My first opinion being in conflict with the other, side with #2 because I am also of the opinion that my opinion is nothing more than that AND it can be wrong -- and therefore the bigger the sample space to evaluate, the better.

Yeah I've settled down from my initial stance of firing him but I still need to see how this season ends to solidify my opinion of him. I didn't like that he showed fear and panic when in the driver's seat but like others have said let's hope that was a learning experience and it doesn't happen again.

Reasonable and fair and I agree.

An IU football fan who thinks we may only have someone 3 years? You don't hear that every decade...

Here recently we have. Tandon Doss, Cody Latimer, Tevin Coleman, Darius Latham and Simmie Cobbs. Devine Redding though? Bad choice.

Louisville was 2-10 last year. And they just beat the #19 team on the road(albeit an overrated team.) Hung 62 on them. Scott Satterfield will coach that team to a bowl in year 1. Just like how Chris Mack had success in year 1. At a place like freaking Louisville, they got through a ton of turmoil and bounce back in 1 year. At IU, it’s always a 4 year rebuilding plan.

They also dont play half the schedule at UL..lol

Wow.. at big bad Wake Forest.

It is not a stretch to say the game at Maryland is the biggest in Allen’s tenure at IU. A loss leaves very little margin for error to make a bowl and will cause fans to roll their eyes and say “same old IU.” He has to start winning some 50/50 and even 40/60 games to have any success.

That we can all agree. Winning this game (and others like them) should be the next level of progression for IUFB.

I could see a big wave of support if Allen was able to win 2 or 3 of the @Maryland, @Nebraska, vs. purdoodoo games to get to a bowl game. If we reach 7 or 8 wins before a bowl I could see an extension.

However, if he fails to make a bowl game with 4 legit chances I could see a lot of people wanting a change. This is the time that “same ol Indiana” falls flat on its face. Can he “breakthrough” and do something that hasn’t been done in forever?!

This I agree with.

My only question for you is, if he does win this weekend will you be back on here to give him credit for winning the biggest game in his tenure?

We've typically been good for one B1G road win a year. I think this has to be it if we want to get to six wins. Can we win at Nebraska or Purdue? Sure. Will we? I doubt it. Can we win at Penn State? No chance.

I will be more than a little disappointed if we don’t win two out of three among the Maryland, Nebraska, and Purdue road games.

I believe we have a real shot of beating Michigan in Bloomington too. That one would be my favorite because it should shut up the naysayers (though it won’t even if we win).

Disclaimer; my expectations are based on the team generally staying healthy, and if Penix is out all bets are off.

If we beat Michigan would be very disappointed if we didn’t also get 2 out of those 3.

7-5 would be a very successful season and the most successful in 12 years.

Agree. The stars are kinda aligned for Allen. Many winnable games with the exception of Penn St IMO.

Don't care how we do it as long as we get 6. Anything beyond that is gravy.

I'm counting a road game at Nebraska as a probable loss.  Plus the Cornhuskers have an extra week to prepare for the Hoosiers.  Not sure why folks have them on their list.  My list of 2-3 teams that IU has a solid competitive chance at winning is Maryland, Northwestern and Purdue.

Have you watched Nebraska this year? If you have, then that’s why people have them on their list.

I saw a little bit of the Colorado game.  And a little bit of the Northwestern game.  Nebraska is on a bye week and has two weeks of prep to host IU in a packed house.  That's a very big deal.  The only like opponent the two teams have is OSU to where the scores were just about the same.  Today, Nebraska's SOS is tougher than IU's, which might not mean anything in the grand scheme of things.  In my opinion, this is going to be a very tough road game for the Hoosiers.  They'll have a chance but I don't have them winning this game.  I hope I'm wrong and I'll gladly eat crow for saying it.

Nebraska and Northwestern are two games of interest for me.
