MikeRoberts Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Not much in terms of updates to talk about and the few we have gotten from IU seem to be misleading at best. So, for those that are upset or annoyed some of us want to talk about it, either inject a new/better topic or sit this one outSent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Iugradman 1 Quote

Popular Post HoosierAloha Posted July 25, 2018 Popular Post Posted July 25, 2018 Haha, this is awesome. Max vert, standing vert, running vert, it doesn't matter. Why is that such a big deal? Tied an NBA combine record? In a way you could state that. Part of getting a look at the combine and the NBA is about hype. If hyping up Smith's max vert to get people talking and then Smith goes out and plays like a beast this upcoming season and gets an invite I'm okay with that. All this stuff is petty and hopefully something more significant happens on the recruiting trail so it just dies a quick death. Hopefully we see some nice translation to the floor. Sure hope that post doesn't get misconstrued by others on the recruiting trail, though. Wouldn't want to risk losing recruits because people thought IU was preparing players to win a WWE title belt. 5 hours ago, Brass Cannon said: Well then fans like you and Hinny are why we had 9 years of Crean. You're telling me because I don't feel like a hype video highlighting summer training, which may or may not be misleading because we don't know EXACTLY to what record and method our S&C coach was referring, should warrant a panic attack about the direction of our program.... I'm partly responsible for Crean's extended stay-cation in Bloomington? (yes, I know you meant it in a figurative sense) First of all, I'm a little upset I'm just now finding out I had the power to influence that situation. You should have called me out sooner; I'd have fixed that situation well before 9 years rolled around. Secondly, fans don't make that call. Your AD does. IUgradman will fill you in on his thoughts there. It's a good thing you aren't a fan of a Louisville or Michigan State; you'd have done had the big one by now. Let me be clear: for anyone who is SO concerned over that post and what it represents, it would be nice if Marshall could specify for you just what combine record he was referring to, when it was set, who set it, and what method was used. Tweet the man if it bothers you that much. But if the important people within Indiana University Men's Basketball don't see it as detrimental, then odds are we'll be ok. If Justin Smith goes to the combine in, say, 1-2 years and records a 42 inch "max vert" with a 2 step approach I'm sure he'll understand the difference between that and a full running start he used with Marshall. I'll be done with this now so others can enjoy the board. My apologies to anyone I annoyed. I did feel the need to retort after being called out, but I'll refrain from now on. woodenshoemanHoosierfan, kholder and thebigweave 3 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 We have hopes of a great team this year. A coach I trust on the sidelines and players with potential. Are we elite yet? Probably not, but not much else we can do yet but build the vision. Hope for chemistry and breakouts and enjoy the ride. I’m not worried about recruiting (although admittedly our guard search is starting to look like straw grasping-albeit still talented straws).Calm down guys. We have another 2 years to really see the vision, each recruiting miss isn’t worth the panic until we miss on a class or start NOT landing any primary targets. My hopes this year aren’t as high as others so I’m enjoying the ride. But when we lose Romeo and Juwan we need to find replacements or build them. Time will tell. Enjoy it, zero reason to worry about our projection right now. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners HinnyHoosier, woodenshoemanHoosierfan, Hoosier Roots and 2 others 5 Quote
HoosierHoops1 Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Ayton is standing on the 3 point line, same as Al and Smith were. Not sure about our other players. Quote
HoosierAloha Posted July 25, 2018 Posted July 25, 2018 Another question for those S&C and most everyone here who has more knowledge..Isn't a running leap detrimental to your vertical? Wouldn't you only want a handful of steps before you go up (vertical) so as not to go out (horizontal)? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Perhaps different coaches have different philosophies. I would tend to think running start is best. Of course with that if you mistime your jump you won’t hit the markers as high Quote

Besides it is called maximum vertical, not maximum vertical in three or less steps. They call it that at the combine and they have specific rules regarding how it's measured. It's not like they let guys at the combine get as big of a running start as they want. So, it does matter. Calling it "Max Vert" and talking about tying a combine record (implying that they're using combine techniques) is deceptive. ElectricBoogaloo, Str8Hoosiers, Hutch89 and 1 other 4 Quote
Brass Cannon Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Max vert is probably meant to measure rebounding. A few steps is much more representative than a running start Quote
