Corruption in College Basketball

Recommended Posts

I don't think he's hunting for bribes. His parents are successful people and Vandy grads which is why they are in the mix.

Whoa, whoa whoa! Wait a second. Is this true? I go ahead and read 800 pages of Romeo Langford recruitment thread and nobody on here thinks to mention that the kids parents graduated from Vanderbilt? WTF? This dude better be mistaken.

We are hard after TJB, Brooks, Hurt, and Watford and very likely could get none of them. All top players and all players the dirty recruiters would pay to get.

Honestly we may be best served to take on a Wisconsin model and spend our time on 4 stars and high 3 stars. I mean our success ratio would probably be pretty good on getting guys we want. I mean we could waste all this time on these 5 stars and lose out in most cases to money in the end.

The options are pretty simple and there are really only two of them.

  1. Wisconsin model and maybe land an in state 5 star every five years or so.

  1.  Drop your ethics and play in the weeds with the big boys who will do anything to win.  You simply will not get five stars without playing dirty.

We have the coach to make the Badger model work.

I hate this, college basketball is my favorite sport and it's turning into a big pile of shat.

Turned to a big pile of **** many years ago. It's just more widespread and accepting nowadays. The NCAA saw the money and buried their heads while lining their pockets.

No...it HAS BEEN a big pile of shat.

Hopefully this year has been the beginning of turning it into something far cleaner.

Think of it like this: was the USA safer from Al Qaeda terrorism on September 10th, 2001 or on September 12, 2001?

It only seems worse because it’s been exposed. Hopefully, that leads to actually doing something about it.

No thanks. It's probably not a smart move to go after any of these kids that are/were involved with the programs mentioned so far... the aura of their corruption will certainly be on the kids, and, by extension, anyone that touches them.

This right here. Nuke it all and start over with some REAL standards and then, live up to the standards. Sadly, the stink is everywhere you look.

I think that MSU knows the score and is just trying to go out on top...not that it will be worth a drop of pi$$ in the end. I think the schools that were blindsided are sitting their kids to send a message that they want to be a part of the fix...and the schools that don't sit their kids are riding their guilt all the way down. No way Bridges or the rest of em are clear.

I'm reminded heavily of Kevin Ware trying to justify his championship because he had a ring...and failing miserably to understand that the path to the ring was paved with corruption. Enter MSU with a true "Hold my beer" moment.

I feel safe in that Shareefs recruitment is clean given that his father is worth a couple hundred million dollars I doubt they would have tried to buy him with 5 or 6 figures. Pocket change for that family

Didnt know they had compliance at kentucky..

They call it a lack of compliance office.  Their job is to figure out the best/safest ways to break the rules, so someone is probably getting fired if pUKe is getting dragged into this.  They can't risk another death penalty.

Anyone "debating" recruiting with me this past week want to talk about it now?

When you view recruiting as dirty, your perspective changes completely. Believe me, that's why I could pick which recruits we'd never get.

Let’s calm down a bit. You’re acting like 90% of sports fans don’t say the same things. Believe it or not you were in the majority on recruiting being dirty not the minority like you seem to be putting out there.

Yes, I was mistaken! My brain took the fact that they like Vandy for its academics and that they both work in the medical field (Vandy is big on that) and got that crazy idea in my head.

The reason Duke and Kentucky skate FOR NOW is because they are professionals. The coaches won't be caught on freaking wiretaps and stupid stuff like that.

You can tell by the way Seth Greenberg and Jay Bilas talk, they all get paid but if the Coaches can't be connected to the dealings the blame will fall on the agents and not the school.

Maintaining deniable culpability or plausible deniability ..... some are better at it than others.

Perhaps Troy's mom was laughing all the way to the bank earlier than we all anticipated. Definitely wouldn't surprise me.

Bank, institution, what's the difference? She was like the female version of Government Cheese, without the entertainment aspect
