woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I'm torn between giving him a chance and pulling my hair out. I really had my hopes up for Donovan. Archie had been talked about but never was a reality for me. He's not the worst but imo certainly not the best. I just hope we didn't rush into this decision. Most especially I hope that we didn't miss out on Billy and end up seeing him on the sidelines at UofL. I guess we just have to hope for the best. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appThis is the exact scenario I've been posting about for a couple days. Someone here were so hell bent to believe that Donavon was the hire, they are having a huge letdown. Therefore , they can't understand this hire. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners The world doesn't work the way you're suggesting. It's a theory. It's the way liberal politicians sell things. This is how it SHOULD be, so therefore it's correct. No program; and especially IU is going to offer a coach a 3 year deal. That's just dumb. Sorry, but it is. Tom Crean had 3 years left on his deal; and was reaching a point of either cut him or extend him. A 3 year deal simply is not the way of the world. I'm not sure others are the ones who don't understand. FortWayneHoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart, mdn82 and 3 others 6 Quote
woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Well I done blueballed myself in hoping for BD. Now a hire that should get pumped has left me feeling down. My own fault I guess.Yep[emoji6]Sent from my SM-T377V using Tapatalk Tom White 1 Quote

Dude, you're just so far off base with this whole years of the contract deal. No coach can come in and recruit on a three year contract. WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 My stance is disappointment because of expectations. Archie COULD be very good for us. If he can recruit anything like his brother I'll be ecstatic about our chances. Like rebel said, I was just hoping our resources and status could get us our top target (I bet glass was too). Glass said Archie was on his short list from the beginning, meaning he was not our top choice, clearly. I'm excited to see IU under different direction than Crean but I just hoped we would making a statement hire with much less uncertainty. His first recruiting cycle and season will be telling. Either that didn't sway them, or IU didn't offer that. I'm glad it's Archie instead of Mack, Holtman, or Bennett. thebigweave and recker222000 2 Quote

mark1981 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 I wouldn't get caught up in the length of the contract. Fred explained it in his presser when he fired Crean. They don't have to pay out the remaining year's if the coach lands another job. The value of the contract is offset by their new contract dollar for dollar.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

Hoosierfan2017 Posted March 25, 2017 Posted March 25, 2017 $4.1 million a year means we're going to have plenty of money left over for recruiting. I'm excited to see what our current players decide to do and who we can add late in the cycle. Hopefully Archie gets on the phone with Justin Smith and gets him to stick with us. I think this move helps convince TB to stick around as well. I was hard on him last year but I think Archie would have him glued to the block like he needs to be. His draft stock would get much higher imo. Alford Bailey 1 Quote
