(2017) PG Tremont Waters to LSU

Recommended Posts

I didn't recall us being that hard on any of them. I still haven't seen us lose Waters yet. So yeah, we look at players every year we miss out on. Players that come on OV? I consider those players a team is truthfully in on. We are good for missing on 1 or 2 of those a year. If we are counting every player we look at then yes we have missed on the last decade and probably batting .005.

We are watching and trying to get our foot in the door with all these guys. We watched many of their games etc. The OV players have reciprocated interest is all. We couldn't get many of the others to do the same. Best use of time, money, and resources??

Ray Spaulding comes to mind. Goodluck OK. Bamba this year. And many others. Our primary target from July sessions is usually a quick strikeout.

Maybe CTC just isn't a great recruiter. Have we thought about that as a reason? His recruiting style seems like such a fuster cluck. So many offers out to so many different levels of players. Maybe if the kids knew what type of players they'd be playing with, they would be more comfortable committing. Having Gelon and Priller as classmates doesn't really give off the sexy vibe.

This is a good point. Judging just based on commits vs official visits does not reflect the energy and time committed to many others who may never get to campus. That time and energy could have been directed to others.

Crean is a tireless worker - no doubts about that.

It really is splitting hairs. I mean July is when Noah Vonleh and Troy Williams heated up. For every good there is a bad. I mean Devin Robinson, BJ Anya, and Malachi. This year to me is really no different than any year other than 2012 when it comes to IU recruits. So I can't really say I am stressing the unknown. Waters has not committed to UK yet. We are still in on Wilkes. Freaking out over this situation seems like a wasted bit of energy every year.

I think you can question things and not freak out. Prior years we were not sitting in such a position of strength as we are now. Plus so many had said we were in really good shape with the 2017 class.

Pap what are you hearing? Are we screwed, or is he still coming for his OV?

Have heard nothing either way since Monday. I'm not relying on the Crystal Ball, so if you're asking me...Monday he was still coming for the OV so I'm going to go with that.

I think it's more we don't go after realistic targets early enough. Why weren't we spending more energy on 4 stars last year. Unless we have a connection to a 5 star or they are from Indiana we should just focus our efforts elsewhere.

I had a long, drawn out opinion of this and read this, so I trashed it. I completely agree. Crean has shown an above average ability to develop talent and get the most of players' ceilings. Why not focus our efforts on the kids who aren't near the hassle? I'm completely for casting a smaller net.

The only thing I saw online was one Kentucky guy jump on this and then a couple of people piggybacked. Then uk fans of course jumped on it. Then as the day went on it was he will either commit or go to IU OV which is good for us. I didn't see anything damning or concrete. Let alone national guys running with this. If he were about to pop for and be the first commit they would want to break this.

But at least we're GOOD at doing this. Being composed and patient? Pfffft, that's for losers.

For those who haven't seen this...

https://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/predictions-where-will-the-2017-four-stars-land-part-i-

This is from today (09/22/16)

There are four, non-Hoosier writers that still predict Waters to IU. Maybe they have old information compared to UK people. Or maybe their information still points Waters to IU.

He may very well commit to UK, but there's enough chatter out there to say we've still got a great shot with him.

Very true, Eric Bossi seems just wrote an article yesterday thinking we're about to get a big bump in our class rankings with Smith, Waters, and Wilkes deciding soon.  He seems to think we lead for all 3.

HoosierD had posted this youtube earlier in the thread.  I think it is worthy of a review if you have viewed previously as  I've quoted a couple of key questions here:

Writer:  You were talking about wanting to find the right fit.  What is the right fit for you?  What are the most important things in thinking of college?

4:07
Tremont:  I would have to say.. not someone who is all about basketball, but someone who wants me to be a good man, and have a life after basketball.  That would be the first part and going to a school where I can be the lead guard running the show and pretty much take over.

Writer: When did Duke offer you?

4:24
Tremont:  Duke offered me the same day Kentucky offered me.  I think it was the last day they could offer kids.  I don't remember, but they both offered the same day.

........Writer:  The programs that have proven that they can be kind of a one and done factory ... if you will ...  Do they have an advantage over schools that don't have that kind of track record?

5:26
Tremont:  [Shaking his head no] ... not really, I would have to say it all falls on what I said before.  Great man, great staff and they want to see me suceed not only on the court, but also off the court.

So then he's for sure not going to Kentucky right?

Did anyone state that?   I would not be surprised by what transpires with a UK recruitment, I just thought this was worth bringing back up as I feel CTC had developed a pretty good relationship with Tremont. Regardless of getting the desired result,  I appreciate the fact that we are in a position to land this great lad.
