They're saying it as in a permanent backup PG. They expect to get Young this year, another 5 star the next year, etc.  

Whereas at IU, he'd all but be guaranteed to be the starting PG his sophomore year.

I would find it hard to believe either school could guarantee anything beyond 2017. Has Garland cooled on us? I doubt we guarantee 2018 unless we knew Garland wasn't coming or Cujo wasn't panning out. All we can recruit any kid on is the present. If we start forward thinking in our recruiting I would assume any coach would pull out a list of every player that has transferred under Crean. I know that's what I would do. I do think Crean has a good idea of the amount of time for the taking. Whether that is first five or first shift.

As for UK Waters is the backup plan. If Young goes there, there will not be a spot for what he will probably want. There is a decent chance it seems Young goes elsewhere.

Will he start over senior Newkirk and senior Rojo. My guess is he doesn't start either but it depends on seeing Newkirk this season. 3 guard lineups etc. Cujo and Green in the mix as well. Durham way back on depth chart. That's why I didn't initially think a PG was a prime need for next season but if you can get Waters, you get him. Let him play his way up the depth chart.

I think there is evidence that Crean promises starting positions. Newkirk has not played a minute here and likely did not receive a promise to start.

So it seems more probable to me that Waters would start over Newkirk.

I am unsure starting for Crean means anything. If he promised playing time that is different.

Going to have concerns at some point right?

We should be at a recruiting peak right now. BT champs. Several guys to the NBA recently. A lot of guys likely gone next year. Playing time looks favorable for about all positions except maybe wing and yet Crean always has a lot of wings.

2017 is loaded class so with that and our recruiting strength we should start having commitments from our top choices.

So.... Coming off of a Kentucky visit we have what seems to be Kentucky and Duke writers piggybacking. May be the case but I will wait for something a little more substantial. OV this weekend.

If UK knows it's not getting Trae Young, and it seems they do, Tremont is all UK. They can sell everything we can with Ulis/Yogi.

This class is looking mighty pedestrian as time goes on. We might need several diamonds in the rough.

PG isn't a high need this off season, it just so happens Tremont and Wilkes are the best 2 players left considering IU.

Like I said, it's going to be an interesting 2 months.

I disagree about point guard not being a big need.

I think Trae Young goes to UK still. They are trying to take 2 point guards. Looking at their roster they are going to need a huge class of probably 7-8 guys
