JSHoosier Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Bad decision in my opinion, but I wasn't consulted. A guy wins two conference championships in four years, then has a .500 season with two major injuries and gets fired. That's not a school I would pursue if I could pick and choose where I wanted to go. I only hope our recruits will still come and our returning players don't transfer en masse. My opening-line money is on Alford to be our next coach although we've snubbed him twice in the past. With his kid graduating UCLA, he might want to come home. Stevens has said he's staying with the Celtics, and why Bennett would want to leave the more prestigious ACC for the faltering Big Ten (for anywhere other than his alma mater Wisconsin) is beyond me. That doesn't leave many great candidates unless somehow we can woo Billy Donovan...and I'll be surprised (pleasantly) if that happens, but I don't expect it. It's only a bad decision to me because it should've been two years ago. Over the last 4 years he's missed the tournament twice and a third was a first game loss as a 10 seed. 3 of the 4 years weren't even top half finishes theriverpilot, thebigweave, Emberton and 1 other 4 Quote
Trish Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 He was talking about where his next coach would come from. He started by saying, "Our next coach is in the league... (A couple second pause). Or he is still coaching in the tournament." Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app inb4 John Groce mdn82 1 Quote
Popular Post mdn82 Posted March 16, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2017 IDK..... Seems to me like everything he's saying ..... He's going directly for Alford. Period.Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile applol I do not gather that in the least. He was wanting to make "IU people" happy by saying he would interview every one of them. Beyond that he referenced everything ex IU guys are not. Whoozhers Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Interesting to hear him talk about the buy-out. It really wasn't much of a factor on $100 million dollar basketball budget....Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Str8Hoosiers 1 Quote

Hoosier Guy Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 It's gonna be Billy Donovan. IU is gonna reap the benefits man. They're finally gonna spend money on an elite coach so they'll get elite results Happydaze 1 Quote

Hovadipo Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Here's the NBA comment. From Rick Bozich: Asked if #iubb could hire a sitting NBA head coach, Fred Glass said, "If somebody wants to be the Indiana head coach, that's a detail." Reminder: this was finally blurted out after a very awkward silence. mdn82, Class of '66 Old Fart, reconmkd and 3 others 6 Quote
Hoosier Guy Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Glass has taken step one in winning me back. He FIRED Tom Crean. That was a no brainer. Step two is getting Billy Donovan. If he does that, I'll be completely on his side once again Kepner, Chris Nieman and thebigweave 3 Quote

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app The $100 mil. is the total athletic budget. If we had $100 mil just for basketball, Popovich would be our HC with Stevens and Spoelstra as assistants.
