The thing is, it can be legislated against; it just hasn't been. The NCAA is an internal industry regulatory group; because of that they routinely lose in court. It will take legislation to truly produce fixes. As Hova stated, this may be the case that spurs the creation of legislation, though the legislative proposals that I've seen about college sports don't mention gambling prohibitions. Anyway - this is an injuction - a stay for Sorsby - not a judicial ruling that he can play. I agree with this judge that the injunction was warranted because there's a pending appeal that needs to be decided by August - he remains eligible until that appeal is heard. However, I also strongly suspect that the appeal will now be heard really quickly and that this injunction will be a moot point by the time the season starts.

We often forget that these gifted athletes are also just people under the surface. I don't know anything about his particular situation but I do have a lot of experience with mentally ill people. Often in situations like his mental instability is at the heart of the problem. Throwing money at it only helps in the short term. It does nothing to help the underlying issues. Mental illness is a hard problem and we don't deal with hard problems very well in this country. I hope he gets the kind of help he needs.

  4. Agree all day on Ponds. But, I think we enough talent back there to compensate for his loss with the development that this staff is becoming famous for. Plus I think Haines is the best in the business and will scheme what we need. Part of that is that I think our d-line is going to be even better this year. Opposing qbs aren't going to have all day to find receivers down field. Even though we lost a lot of important pieces on defense, I think the sum of what we have on the roster is going to be even better. Honestly, I worry more about the offense than the defense.

  5. This is (was) a cut and dry rule. CFB has an issue if player gambling (including on their OWN team) is legal or a slap on the wrist. Fans are gonna wonder, which is a real and serious problem. It’s why every sports league severely penalizes players that gamble on their sport. Also… if this stands what rule can the NCAA enforce? Are we gonna see bad calls being taken to court? Oh, this call was wrong and caused a loss resulting in “irreparable harm.” The court rules this loss is now a win. Hopefully the NCAA wins on appeal.

Yep. And even when betting on your own team, varying the amount bet on each game and the type of bet (e.g., money line or a spread to cover) all creates conflicts and sporting integrity issues. Did Brendan try that pass to cover a spread? He bet $100K on this game and $5K on that game… is he playing differently? What’s more important to him, the bet outcome or the team outcome? One of the more annoying things is when someone pretends to not understand something really basic in an argument. Cowlishaw a case in point example here.

  8. Man, I hope you're right here. If Sorsby is playing this season than the sport and our judicial system is truly broken. He admitted to the ULTIMATE NO NO regarding athletes betting while playing in competitive sport. It's the most sacrilegious thing to do and even some of his peers will have a hard time trusting him. Every move he makes on the field will be questioned. This is bad. Really bad.

  16. Jamie Shaw following a South Carolina Team Camp Day - Antoine Caughman looks the part. You see the 6-foot-5 wing walk on the court with excellent length and a projectable frame; he has a high major frame. What really pops with Caughman’s game is his scoring ability. He has a smooth jump shot and wants the ball in his hands. With multiple plays, he scored the ball off movement or the catch. He got to his mid range pull up and he finished at the basket. He will need to continue working through his balance points and footwork, stream-lining his process getting to his spots. However, the ceiling is high for the scoring guard. Caughman is currently ranked No. 21 on Rivals. The Keenan (SC) High School wing recently added offers from UCLA, Cal, and Indiana.

  18. The #1 rule in sports is that you can't bet on your own team. Sorsby broke that rule thousands and thousands of times. All the adults in the room should be united in efforts to permanently ban him from competition, but here we are.
    1 point
  19. Let me repeat. Some of Sorsby's own teammates will have a hard time trusting him. I don't understand how Joey McGuire is even allowing him to play. It says more about Coach McGuire than it does anything. That locker room will have multiple players questioning the coach's own integrity. Any loss, 'potential point shaving' play whether that be a throw away, fumble, etc. etc. will be questioned by some of the players in the locker room. This is bad. Really bad.

  24. Surely this nonsense is overturned. The 1 good thing might be that the NCAA can go back to Congress and say, “C’mon we can’t even regulate this? We have got to have an antitrust exemption.” And maybe a few folks with some juice have the good sense to push that forward because it just has to happen.

Eric Bossi on Grivna from the Adidas EuroCamp - Another member of the class of 2029 who was facing much older and more experienced competition, Grivna is pushing seven-feet tall and oozes long-term potential. Grivna already has a great base to build on, moves well and is a legitimate presence as a rim protector. He can finish through contact at the rim and shows real potential as a shooter who can stretch defenses as a trail five man. Like Evans, he's got a real shot to be among the very best players in his class nationally.

https://huangswhinings.com/2026/06/06/seven-million-dollars-have-we-completely-lost-our-minds/ Pretty nice read. A UK fan working through the idea of 7 mil for Momcilovic. With no salary cap I don’t begrudge the schools, and God knows I don’t begrudge the kids, but what needs to happen for them to justify that expenditure on a single player? Did you get the ROI you’re looking if you make a final 4 or does it have to be a Natty? Did BYU get what they wanted from Dybantsa? The lose and go home nature of CBB and the fact that it’s a 1 year deal makes it almost impossible for me to think that’s how you do it. I would much rather build the broadest and deepest roster I can rather than having to completely rely on a kid or two having to be great every night.

This is all over my feed as an otherworldly kick and I need help. What I see is a guy making contact at about his 34 and the kick landing between the 5 and 10. So, in a game it’s about a 50 yard punt. So basically a good D1 caliber punt. And it may have ungodly hang time but ya don’t know that because it’s in slow motion. Am I not seeing or calculating this correctly?

Good video, thanks. Interesting to call Josh Hoover an "old dog"... he's only 22 years old! I'm optimistic the balanced running game, better OL, [much] better WRs, scheme, and Tino will level up Josh. Like the last several Cig QBs. We'll see. As for this season... if we can stay healthy and just get into the playoff... anything is possible from there.

  39. Yes, you're correct, 'a handful' of HS recruits are going to get offers from the big dogs. If you're getting offers from the big dogs then you're more than likely getting a big bag, somewhere. Keep in mind, a HS recruit getting D1 offers are rare among his peers. He is just a handful amongst many. We can figure out the percentages by looking at these 2024-2025 numbers from NFHS. The link breaks down participation numbers. It doesn't include 8-Player football but Google AI overview estimates there are around 26k participants. So adding those numbers, you're looking at roughly 1.052 million HS football players available for 14,490 total D1 scholarships. (138 D1 football schools x 105 scholarships per school) That means around 1.4% of HS football players go on to play D1. But that percentage is actually lower because every school isn't offering 105 scholarships every year. These numbers are estimates and I'm just using them to provide a bigger picture. So of the 14,490 pool of recruits, I'm willing to bet most if not all 4* recruits are getting compensated a big bag via NIL. (A big bag to me is 6 figures, anything 100k and above) Because again, in the grand scheme of things, there's really not that many recruits in general. And most if not all P4 3* recruits are getting compensated via NIL in some way or the other as well. (For example, a full ride scholarship and an NIL dollar value of a yearly tuition, housing, dining, and books. So depending on what school and out-of-state vs in-state cost etc. etc., something like 35K-60k would not be out of the question.) The thing that has me way concerned is the market. It has shifted so much that it's impossible to predict what is the proper 'value' of each position/recruit. For example, maybe a DL recruit in 2025 signed with O$U for 240k. According to Coach Cig's latest comments, that value might now be 720k to 1.2mil? I believe he said it's jumped 3 to 5 times? I could be wrong. But like how does someone budget for this type of unpredictable jump? Bottom line, today, these recruits have a life changing opportunity and I don't blame them for this type of approach.
    1 point
  40. But in football, there are only a handful of HS recruits who are going to get a big bag I would think. It seems like they commit to one to see what other fish will come around. I look at it like when a guy starts dating a girl, it would seem like you draw a lot more attention to yourself because you are "taken".

  42. This kind of happened to a local 2025 4* recruit. Winter going into his senior season he committed to a MAC school. Got offers from ACC and Big 12 schools after commitment. Spring, he decommitted to the MAC and committed to a Big 12 school. During season, gets offers from SEC and B1G. Towards the end of his final season he decommitted to the Big 12 school and signed with a top B1G school. Part of this was due to what kind of year he had and the other part of it was the size of bag he was getting. With IUFB, most of these recruits are already getting offers from the big dogs so I'm not sure if my example applies now. Because that's almost a typical college football recruit prior to NIL. Kid starts out as a 2*, goes to summer camps gains an offer from G5/6 schools, elevates to 3* once a 'mid to upper mid' P4 offer comes in, kid improves during the season and get offers from big dogs, elevates to 4*. I'd like to add that some kids just want to get the recruitment out of the way and focus on season. But, NIL has completely changed everything and it's foolish to not keep the door open for these life changing opportunities. And this would be my advice to my child if he were in this boat.
