  1. He's a Hoosier. And while he may never play, I feel he deserves a thread of his own. Dallas James. Center. Artesia, California. City Honors Prep Academy. 7-0, 235. Played 4 years at South Carolina State. Stats: 70 games, 1.4 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.7 bpg, 56.2% FG Per 40: Averaged 3.5 blocks. Per 100 Possessions: Averaged 4.8 blocks. Good practice body, especially for Ballo to go up against some length. And an insurance policy on a team that doesn't need a massive contributor from their 3rd string center.

  2. I would just echo all the positive things already said about this pick up. SIAP, but this is another example of the staff correcting the flaws of last years roster. Now they have completed all 13 scholarships and won't have the fan base wondering why they left one open like last year. Also, welcome aboard Mr. James.

  3. That's fair and I agree. If the roster is constructed soundly that 13th scholly doesn't necessarily need to be filled. Filling it with Dallas James has zero downside and moreover, filling it with a proven high-quality student and person can be of value and in this case seems like a good idea.

  4. I agree there is no downside to signing James, assuming no one better was available, but a 7 foot senior making a total of 9 buckets in 25 games, against low level competition, is almost kind of funny (also was 1-6 from the FT line). I’m not even sure he will practice all that much against Ballo as long as Hatton is healthy. That being said he will come in handy as a practice player if we encounter injuries. Anyway, he sounds like a good kid and a potential positive contributor to the team GPA.

  5. Last year I would argue that it wasn’t the 13th scholarship that was open but somewhere between 8-10. Staff put too much hope in X recovering AND playing like he did his final 8 games of year 1. Then they did not build experienced depth at PG. positions 10-12 slid up because we did not fill the backup PG spot which I would argue would be roster positions/scholarship 8-10.

  6. I never understood why our fans care so much about filling all 13 scholarships. Last year the reason we struggled was not having a 13th scholarship but it was roster construction. Most teams don't have all 13 scholarships covered and one is the team who has won back to back championships.

  7. A high academic achiever to serve as practice fodder and 5 fouls in the worst of emergencies. No problem with it.

  8. Emails being received that inform season ticket buyers that they will receive their selection day/time & priority point statement in the mail. I'd bet those letters could be showing up in mailboxes tomorrow and/or Thursday (maybe even today?) and that the online selection system will go live very soon to allow buyers to familiarize themselves with the process. Best of luck to you season ticket buyers and GO HOOSIERS!!!!!!

  10. Now that we've gotten rid of the black trim on the jerseys... I'm saying 8 wins. No more 90s cheap looking garbage jerseys. Yup.. that'll get us 8. 9 with the bowl victory.

  11. No no, he’ll confuse opposing players with finite math and calculus problems during free throws. Free rebounds coming

  14. Not saying this affects anything, but can say as of today, Kentucky has offered the biggest NIL in this race by a rather wide margin.

  15. Fran has a pretty good roster this coming season. Freeman, Dix, and Sandfort are all really good and Traore and Telwell are very good portal gets. Still crap-@$$ defense, but a solid or better Fran team.

  17. If they have to go somewhere other than Chicago/Indy (and they don't) it should be once every four years like this is set up. Vegas will do better than the pitiful attempt to hit the east coast because it's Vegas, but the tournament's identity is in the midwest.

  18. The more roster spots you don't use, the more susceptible you are to ending up with a bad roster due to injuries or even playing to expectation. It's not just in games where not having enough bodies can hurt, it can be in practice and game prep as well. I don't understand why you're so adamant that not all scholarships should be used. Just because some other teams do the same thing? We tried it last year and many (all?) years under Miller. None of those resulted in a national championship so maybe, just maybe, there are other factors involved than not using all scholarships.

  19. Exactly! Even though he went about all of it the wrong way, heard the fans concerns loud and clear! He also fills a need and concern most of us had, front court depth, and yes it isn’t the quality of depth most of us would have wanted; however, he could play a few minutes here and there to help. I like this signing myself and he will help in practice and academics too!

  21. This roster needed height. That was clear to see. This most likely is a “Walk-on 7 footer” situation. Sounds like a quality kid. Gives practice height to compete with. My biggest hope this season is Ballo stays healthy. This roster needs him to play huge minutes.

  22. 100% Regardless-- if you truly can't get anyone else, why wouldn't you take this kid for a year? I'm failing to see the drawbacks.

  23. Less worried about the financial side than I would be Pope busting out cut ups of his offense at BYU and Braylon loving it as much as I do.

  26. I’ll chime in if I may. My 17 year old is pretty good at school, and therefore put together 20 college applications for high-end schools all over the country. Looking for financial aid, weighing offers, writing applications and essays, visiting campuses, researching programs, taking classes at the local college to show that he wasn’t coasting…between that, varsity sports, music performances, and a heavy regular school load? It was a huge senior year effort and by far his most packed year. Very little free time for himself. He wasn’t under a microscope of people noticing him, but being a motivated high school senior with options is a full time job even when you’re not an athlete. At least Mullins doesn’t have to worry much about university academic acceptances.

  27. There are so many unknowns this season with all the transfer portal movement. I do think that the IU we see in September will likely be much different than the one we see in October/November. But with all the talent brought in not just from a player standpoint but also with the new coaching staff; if we can stay healthy I see us winning 6-7 games and going to a bowl game. GO HOOSIERS! FIU - W W. Ill - W @UCLA - W Charlotte - W Maryland - W/L @Northwestern - W Nebraska - L Washington - L @MSU - L Michigan - L @OSU - L Purdue - W Total - 6 wins.

  30. Adam Finkelstein on the NCAA Academy and a couple of names that may have IU interest. Luke Ertel, Indiana Elite After spending the grassroots season playing up with Indiana Elite's U17 team, Ertel made the move back to play with the U16 squad last week and his presence could have been the difference-maker in their championship run. It was also an opportunity for Ertel to be aggressive and show more of his individual offense after running alongside the likes of Braylon Mullins, Malachi Moreno and Trent Sisley for the last five months. He did just that, giving Indiana Elite a critical piece in the backcourt with his assertiveness, toughness, and overall presence. He plays strong with the ball, has a good skill-set, is a consistent floor-spacing threat from three and is particularly effective with his pull-up. On the recruiting front, he landed an offer from Butler, where both his parents went to school, last month and added offers from Purdue and Wake Forest this week. Deron Rippey Jr, New Heights Lightning The New York based program culminated their season with a run to the finals of the 10th grade championship. Rippey, who has been the leader of this squad from start to finish, continued to show more growth in his game. He's added some noticeable muscle mass to his frame in recent months and is also becoming a more consistent shooting threat from the perimeter. He's a well-known competitor, defender, and dribble drive threat. He's already one of the highest rated point guards in the national junior class, and his recruitment reflects that status with programs like St. John's, Illinois, Villanova, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Maryland and Michigan all making him an early priority while the likes of UConn and Arkansas are also involved.

  34. So if you have a bad year? Fired/demoted. - This already happens. They ride the bench or transfer. Unionization is a bridge too far for me though. Once they demand double pay to play on holidays or strike to get a bigger share of the Adidas contract, I'll focus my time & attention elsewhere. - It's always confusing to me how the players getting paid detracts from someone's ability to enjoy the watching them play. Unionization would likely also lead to a collective bargaining agreement which might limit how much schools can directly pay the players, might limit NIL without actual work, and might restrict the currently unrestricted free transfers.

  35. Haven’t posted here but enjoy reading, and I’ve been an IU football fan since my earliest days as a toddler in Bloomington. First off, Cignetti is the real thing. I’ve been around him in several settings and he’s extremely bright, highly focused, is personable without being a little over the top like Tom Allen could be, and has a young, enthusiastic staff. We really got it right by hiring him. When he spoke to one of our groups, he said they knew immediately they would have to overhaul the roster, as we couldn’t win with what we had. He didn’t elaborate, but I took it to mean we needed both a talent and attitude change, or the losing would continue. I’ve had some people say that we need to be patient and that’s probably true, but he never once said that. He said the players coming in will all either start or be big contributors, and he doesn’t care if that upsets the returning guys. He said the best guys play and that competition is what they want. They also want fan support. He talked about how much of it they had at James Madison, and that the players and coaches appreciated it very much. Said it was a family atmosphere, including the fans, and he wants that at IU. For the season, I’m predicting 5-7, with the three out of conference games as W’s and MSU and Northwestern as our conference wins. I think we’ll battle throughout and will be close in many of our games though, so we could do better, especially if we stay healthy. Injuries, particularly at quarterback, OL and DL, will be our Achilles. Go Hoosiers.
