  3. I don't get it. We have two available scholarships. We just had a season where injuries hampered results. We are thin in the backcourt with a need for shooters. We are an injury away from more issues. We need depth. He absolutely would have helped. Do people dislike him because he wants to go to college to improve himself? Ask yourselves. Did you go to college to improve your life or to improve the college? Everybody goes to college to improve their own life. Everybody. Do we dislike him because he's not from Indiana? He's a dreaded east coaster? We need to get beyond our own biases and stereotypes. I don't get this fanbase. I know not every one of us has these thoughts, that would be a stereotype. But man we drive me crazy sometimes.

  6. Yep. I would say in this case, Archie is wrong. He still has some Dayton in him, and I have zero interest in any me first kids. Getting or losing this kid will have zero bearing on whether or not Indiana makes or doesn't make the NCAA tournament. Indiana's entity is far bigger than the recent on court results. Culture is not always current status. I have complete faith in his ability to coach, but not every kid is a fit. See Luke Recker. See Lawrence Funderburke. On and on. This kid would have been a bad fit in my opinion, and I don't equate him one bit to a failure or some "sign." I know what we DID get.

  7. Not sure where to start with this.... "A program needs talent to win?" Really?? You don't say. Do you honestly think I meant we don't need talent? Is that what you interpreted? I'll start with Franklin. You've never seen him play if you think it'll take a couple of years for him to be a good player. That's just truth. We just landed Phinisee, Jackson-Davis, Hunter, and Franklin. I'm not seeing this "struggle" you're selling. And no program will ever land "most" of anything, which is one reason I said we need the "right kids." The ones who can succeed in the Big Ten and in Archie's system as it evolves. You aren't the only one who knows IU's history, but here are some things that kinda' validate what I said. 1981, IU also had a whole lot of experience. Tolbert, Wittman, Kitchell, Turner, Risley, Grunwald, and Isenbarger were all upper classmen. 1987? Alford, Thomas, Jadlow, Sloan, Hillman, Smith, Eyl? Upper classmen..plus the two JUCO's...one of whom was 22 years old at the time. But....the real funny thing here is the title itself. Yeah, Daryl Thomas and Rick Calloway were both, in title, "McDonald's All Americans," but....Steve Alford wasn't. That kinda' throws a wrench into the theory, if you ask me. Alford had a legendary senior season that ended with a 57 point game in a semi state game with no 3-point line - at a time when Indiana High School Basketball was pretty solid - and became one of the best college guards of his era, and a 2 time consensus All American in college. There are hundreds of stories of players like this who didn't hold that moniker. Meaningless technicality of a title. At that time, with no internet, it was up to writers who had never seen a lot of the players, and as much a popularity contest as anything. Greg Dreiling, Greg Kite, and Tim McCormick were McDonald's All Americans. Charles Barkley was not. Numbers seem to mean a lot to you. How many top 50 (McD's All America caliber) kids participated in this season's final four? I'll wait while you look that up, since I'm living in some "pure fantasy." Oh hell...I'll help you. On 4 teams (each of which won their conference or their conference tournament), six total top 50 kids participated/played in this season's final four. Know how many of those Texas Tech had? In fact, know how many top 100 kids Texas Tech had? Zero. None. But they had a damned good coach who recruited to a system. You think Michigan State has built what they have solely with McD's All Americans, or maybe "getting old and staying old" with kids that fit what Izzo does has something to do with it? So much for your theory that Indiana needs "almost all highly ranked players." (That was a ridiculous statement by you) I don't think I said we don't need talent to win. Did I? I don't think I did. Indiana has and will continue to get its share of talent. But we don't need a lineup of "mostly highly ranked players." Is your point that we needed Quinones, or something else?

  8. I love that he’s finally being recognized and mentioned by someone outside of Bloomington. I have been high on him since he was a high school recruit (as I’m sure many of us have), and I concur with Lockdown...although I would go a bit farther and say he’s been mentally “ready” but physically unable to see his full potential come to fruition. His mental toughness and preparedness is what has made him capable of not throwing in the towel through so much adversity and to continue pushing to keep his hope alive of proving himself. I expect big things from Deron, and I hope I’m not wrong more for him than myself or the team. I like his attitude, perseverance, and persistence. He deserves a healthy shot to show people why he was so highly touted in high school. Stay healthy and put in the work, Deron!

  9. Timeline at North Carolina: morning of April 23: #4 ranked player and combo guard Cole Anthony signs with North Carolina afternoon of April 23: #68 ranked player and combo guard Anthony Harris signs with North Carolina. grad transfer shooting guard Christian Keeling and swingman Justin Pierce visit North Carolina. April 26: Justin Pierce signs with North Carolina. May 2: Christian Keeling signs with North Carolina. That's a bounty of guard play that North Carolina picked up. That said, we'll never know if Anthony Harris had waited ten days to sign if he would have signed there. It's certainly going to be difficult to see him getting many minutes next year. I don't think we can blame kids for waiting so long to commit. With the state of transfers and the NBA deadline getting pushed back so far to allow you come back to school, they aren't really getting a real clear picture.

  11. Day 2 B1G Championships. In the team standings after a strong day on the women's side, the women are currently in first place with 48 points. On the men's side, they sit in second with 41 points just half a point behind Nebraska. Indiana Track & Field added to the medal count today as Khayla Dawson and Anna Watson both secured individual Big Ten Championships on day two of the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In a talented field, Khayla Dawson threw program best of distance of 17.65m (57' 11") to secure gold. Her distance was also an Iowa facility record and personal best. After the women's pole vault was moved inside, Anna Watson vaulted to her personal best height of 4.17m (13' 8.25") in the pole vault to grab her first Big Ten title. Daniel Michalski, Jyles Etienne, Maddy Pollard, Hope Purcell all scored for the Hoosiers in their respective events. Michalski grabbed silver in the steeplechase with a time of 8:47.16. Jyles Etienne added to his bronze in outdoor with a matching one as he saw a personal best tying height of 2.20m (7' 2.5"). Pollard had a strong day in the shot put as she threw a 16.26m (53' 4.25") to place fifth. Rounding out the foursome was Purcell as she competed in the heptathlon and placed sixth with a personal best 4,969. On the track, there was another full slate of prelims as Rikkoi Brathwaite, Natalie Price, Cooper Williams, Daniel Kuhn, Kelsey Harris, and Joely Pinkston all advanced to the final of their events. Brathwaite set the tone in the 100m as he finished in second in his heat with a time of 10.58 to advance to the final. Price was the first to qualify on the women's side as she too saw a strong performance in the 400m. The junior raced to a time of 54.69 which the was second fastest in her heat. Williams automatically qualified for the 800m final as he ran the fastest qualifying time of 1:48.86. Kuhn will also see the finals of the 800m as he clocked a time of 1:53.11. On the women's side, Harris earned the automatic qualifying spot in her heat after clinching a time of 2:06.83. Pinkston earned a spot in tomorrow's final with a time of 2:07.95.

I think his team kind of stinks. Pretty sure they don’t have much of a choice but to let him shoot at will.

  21. Cross may be fantastic but he is shooting volume at 36% and his team has lost every game. This in itself doesn’t paint a full picture but it’s not necessarily ideal. Obviously the team sees him as the alpha to let him shoot that much, like Carsen Edwards. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  25. Hovadipo

    NBA Thread

But he does control the ball for most of every shot clock. Specifically, in the last 3 years he has had the 2nd, 10th, and 35th highest usage rates of ALL TIME in a row. I think it’s more that coupled with his style than conspiracy. Edit: To encompass the full 5 years, 4 years ago he ranked 77th all time in usage % and 144th all time 5 years ago.

  26. Justin Sueing (California) announced his transfer to Ohio State). Will sit out the 19-20 season and have two years left. He averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds at California from the small forward position. Kind of hard to read how good he was....Cal was horrible (8-27). He shot 43% from the field and only 30% from three. Does get to the free throw line at a good rate.

  29. Did you also see UK is now in the lead for Jaden McDaniels? That makes 4 recruits ranked higher than Keion. I'm not saying the kid should have went to IU, (personally thought he fit best at Michigan State) but my goodness who was giving that kid advice? He won't play more than 15 minutes next year...

  30. Probably a lot more truth in this than we realize for some of the teams.

  31. Consider this a major victory, my man. We lost nothing except a PIA kid whose ego is too big to ever be on a good team. We have 3 top 100 kids (I think Franklin got there, right) in Hunter (37 last year), Jackson, and Davis. We need the RIGHT players. Not "top 100" players. We need seniors. Program kids. We need to get old and stay old. We do not need "immediate impact" kids in every recruiting class or all we'll do is turn over recruiting classes. That is not Indiana's culture and I don't want it to be.

  32. Galloway is probably a little different then most that are from that area. He grew up in Central Indiana until his dad got the culver job. While he said he didn’t grow up his whole family were IU fans according to him. I think there was a picture last year floating around with him with an IU hat on. Definitely not a lock but I would say IU is in good shape. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  34. Let's give credit where it's due -- in just two years, Miller brought in a player from St Joseph's county (whom, let's not forget, was a guy whom was a huge Purdue lean) and a player straight out of West Lafayette. I'd say the last two years are more relevant to look at.

  38. This is a bit of a "prove it" year for Archie. His team is lacking in star power other than TJD but has successfully gotten "old." There are a good chunk of upperclassmen who should be major parts of the rotation: Green, De'ron, Brunk, Smith, Durham. In year 3 if you have kept these guys around (plus Brunk) they are officially "your" guys. We should be better in year 3 if everything is working properly, even after losing Juwan and Romeo. The defensive system is in place and solidified by another year, the offense needs to be put in place this year. If we take a step back, I will have questions about the quality of coaching/development.

  39. It really is quite an interesting phenomenon. I looked at my 2019 spreadsheet - not guaranteeing it's 100% accurate - and we've extended formal offers to 25 kids. Only 10 were in the N-Z surname category. In 2018, 22 formal offers and only 3 in the N-Z category. It's impossible to keep tabs on every kid that we may have watched at one time or another but the names I did put in my spreadsheet for 2018 and 2019 are heavily in the A-M range. Maybe there's some kind of alphabetical phobia at work? lol As a side note, keeping track of AAU stats is a whole lot easier for me with Archie being far more selective in his offers that was our previous coach.

  40. We only want to offer the upper level, and that includes alphabetically. (I don't know which one is the sarcasm font.)

  41. I agree with your point, the NCAA, ACC, Duke, all the broadcast partners, etc. all made millions off of Zion Williamson. That's absolutely accurate and true. But at the same time, Zion himself also made tens, if not hundreds, of millions of dollars off the exposure and branding he received by playing college basketball. He would not have been the #1 pick if he came right out of high school and the branding and exposure he received playing college basketball will garner him a $100 million shoe deal which would not have happened if he was allowed to go the NBA right out of high school, as well as other endorsements. Zion Williamson benefited incredibly by playing college basketball.

  42. Your point about Zion brings up a point that is related. 1 of the reasons I want rid of 1 and done is I feel having these stars is bad for the league. I really feel that the superstar discount is beginning to get out of hand in officiating. Both Pro and college.

  43. Sad. Man my age and I can't think of much more that I hate than UK. More now the 'hilljacks' that have invaded my lands with their smurf blue gear, arrogance and ignorance! Not even about bball anymore, goes deeper. So, you crossover and ya' dead to me!

  44. About how I feel. This is what Calipari does. I don't wish Keion ill will, but him potentially getting recruited over was something a lot of people thought might happen at UK. Just a little surprised that it's happening only a month after he committed.

  45. Bitterness over a kid making a decision that he thinks is right for himself and puts him in the best position to be a professional is silly. He didn't owe IU anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
