  2. From the Crimson Quarry...VERY GOOD STUFF; had no idea of the huge family connection to Coach Schilling! "The hire of assistant coach Ed Schilling could prove to be the biggest boon of all considering the history he has in the state. Schilling’s first head coaching job was at Wright State in the late 1990’s, where one of his players was Keion Brooks Sr. Schilling has stayed very close to the Brooks family ever since, and now, 20 years later, Keion Brooks Jr. is a 5-star prospect in the class of 2019 at Fort Wayne North HS. While it’s far from a sure thing that Brooks would come to play under the same tutelage as his father, this is a major development for Indiana in the recruitment of a top talent not only in the state, but nationally."

  4. Clifton Moore reaffirmed commitment per Brian Snow

  5. Ummm...guys (and gals): I know we've been focused on Al and Justin at the Derby last weekend, but Clifton Moore played in the Jordan Brand regional game against a whole lot of top 100, and even more than a couple top 50 ranked players. No defense played in the game; final score 170-162, and our guy Clifton had 11 points. The big takeaways likely came from the experts who saw the game and the workouts between these top recruits. Here's what Draft Express (Givony) had to say about our incoming freshman: CLIFTON MOORE, PF/C, CLASS OF 2017, INDIANA STRENGTHS -Intriguing physical profile at 6' 10 with a frame that should fill out really nicely in time (although on the thin side right now). Long arms. -Fluid in the open floor. Bouncy in space. -Projectable shooting stroke out to three. Ball comes out of his hand really nicely. Great rotation. Has the agility and footwork to shoot off the bounce a little bit as well. -Can straight line drive in space. -Has upside defensively given his length and agility WEAKNESSES-Nice frame but on the thin side right now -Doesn't have the most natural feel for the game -Not overly physical on the defensive end -Prefers to float on the perimeter a little bit offensively -Shooting potential not fully realized at this stage OUTLOOK-The Indiana signee stood out as the most interesting long-term prospect in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game. At 6'10, he has the size and length to play some five down the road once he fills out, and the agility to play the four. It's hard to find bigs with Moore's tools and shooting potential, which is likely the key to unlocking his long-term upside. Given the nature of the game we weren't able to get an extended look at Moore's defensive intensity and decision making, but we were able to identify him as an NBA prospect worth tracking. Moore elected to remain committed to Indiana despite the coaching change, and is a major building block for Archie Miller and his staff moving forward. 6. 100% this. JBJ is who he is. A dynamic shooter. Never been a defensive stopper at any level. TB just needs the right guidance. He was phenomenal in HS. All motor, heart, hustle. His footwork didn't hurt him as much because of his enormous size and length could make up for sloppy footwork. TB under the right guidance could be a force for us. This whole Crean dribble drive offense with TB was ludicrous. Trying to turn TB into a wing player for the NBA. TB is a big. He can shoot. Pick and pops and pick and rolls. Get him to stay home on defense too, so he is in better position to help defend dribble drives. I want TB back. Excited to see Devonte get more run at guard anyway. 7. All 3 recruits seem to be saying the same thing about their meetings with Archie. He doesn't care if what he says isn't what you want to hear, he's gonna keep it real. I think the guys all like that.

  8. "Moore said that one of his biggest takeaways from the meeting with Miller and Flint was how straightforward they were with their plan for him. “They didn’t put any fluff on it,” he said. “They didn’t try to butter anything up. They just told me the plan that they saw and the goals that they’re trying to reach, the success they’re looking for. It was all truth.” That was my biggest takeaway from that article. I love that, no bs no used car salesman lines, just straight forward.

  9. I coached a few years of High School baseball, and one thing I will never do is coach little kids. The parents are 1,000 times worse at that age. Granted most of the kids I coached were only a couple years younger than me so they knew better than to try the stuff they would on an older coach, but I also made it clear that if a parent didnt like what I was doing they could take their son home(no parent took me up on that offer) I was an assistant but the head coach was only the head coach because he was a teacher and the previous HC quit in the middle of the season and he didnt want the kids season to end. After his first year he stayed on as HC but let me and a couple other former players run things. One story I did have was a kid who was about 4-5 yrs younger than I was and he had a bad attitude and always wanted to fight/defy authority. He honestly had a rough upbringing, I was later told his dad beat on him and called him every name in the book and just walked out one day. Well one day I kicked him off the field and after practice went back and dragged him back on it and he and I had a long heart to heart followed by a lot of running. I told him that I will be on his ass every day whether it was at school or at practice and he didnt have the option to quit, but I also told him I would always be the first one there to support him if he ever needed it. One day another coach called him a worthless piece of shit because he did a take out slide trying to break up a double play and that coach and I went nose to nose over it, and after it happened I grabbed that kid and gave him a big hug because he was crying. I came to find out later that he wasnt crying because his feelings were hurt he was crying because no one ever stood up for him before. I told him that I may be an asshole but I will always be there if he needed anything. Now many years later that same kid is in the military and about to be married. The day he graduated boot camp he called me and just said thank you. Kids like that makes it all worth it.

  14. Lemme see if I understand your points from your last couple posts: 1) You don't want Crean's players on the floor, but; 2) Gelon and Priller should play more (let's ignore they were Crean's players), in place of; 3) Two players with the potential to be All B1G next year, Thomas Bryant and Rob Johnson, who you think should; 4) Leave the team for a year to readjust their attitudes while sitting on the bench somewhere fulfilling their transfer obligation, and then; 5) Return to Indiana to sit on the bench for another year to fulfill their transfer obligation, at which point Bryant and Johnson will have surpassed their alotted 5 years to play 4 seasons, meaning both will be ineligible to continue playing college basketball. Let me know if I missed anything. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  15. I've been away all evening so I'm just now seeing the news. This is great stuff, I wasn't expecting Moore to stick with us. Archie was able to get three guys he didnt have relationships with to reaffirm their commitments when they could've picked from a number of different schools. He also convinced Collin to come back after he seemed like he was well on his way to moving on with his life. I might be jumping the gun, but I feel really good about Archie being able to recruit at a high enough level to compete for big ten and national championships.

  19. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Archie knows. ... He has to know who's staying and who's going or have a very, very good indication of such. Otherwise, he would've just let Moore or Durham go. They wanted out of their LOIs and if we were to remain oversigned, the easy thing would be to just release them. But he worked hard to keep them. That tells me he's pretty hip to the scholly situation and knows how it will play out.

  25. McSwain ain't going anywhere. He is 1 of 2 guys that actually improved last year over the course of the season (with JN). I think he will play 10-15 minutes a game as he's big, tough and athletic. And he just posted an Instagram photo of himself working out with CAM watching on.

  26. Completely agree. IF Bryant returns it will be best for him and IU to play in the post. He's not going to play on the perimeter in the NBA, he just doesn't have that game. Archie should utilize him in the post depending on the lineup and matchup. He CAN be a dominant big after a good summer. That's where he'll make his money.

  27. Bryant has a TON to gain by coming back this next year and working with a new staff on the block and dominating the glass. I see potential for a big stat jump and that's just from correct utilization, not even player growth. JBJ on the other hand is a shooter. He's been a real good shooter for a real long time, but his other skills have and I feel will always be lacking to some degree no matter the time/effort he puts in. IMO, JBJ should go get paid while he can (wherever that may be) and TB could really make a difference in his first contract by staying back a year.

  29. Ummm...in tee-ball, everyone deserves a trophy. And a juice box. EVERYBODY should definitely get a juice box. Winners maybe get a bonus cookie. But only if we can all agree which one is ours. Unless it's a game in the morning. Then, winners get a doughnut. With sprinkles. Good coaches make sure every doughnut has sprinkles. So there. I am the RMK of tee-ball coaching acumen.

  31. Is there any chance someone goes to a "prep" school for a year? No. ...a player like Gelon transferring to a Jr college and then coming back Nope. _____________________________________________________________________ The last two spots will open when JBj and/or TB goes pro, and/or when current players transfer away permanently. The most likely scenario by far is that both JBj and TB go pro.

  33. Yep same here in the greenwood area(4-5 year old league). The coach will pitch first and if no hits they will put it on the tee for kids. No prouder feeling as a parent for me last year then when my 4 year old hit off the coach for a hit and ran to first and jumped up and down on bag while looking at me repeatedly saying I did dad. Also Alabama's Braxton Key will declare for the 2017 NBA Draft, but won't sign with an agent, per release. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  36. Bryant will need of summer in the weight room and dance hall to be a dominate low post scorer. His freshman year he excelled from offensive rebounds for putbacks and Yogi dropping him dimes. Bryant's footwork isn't good enough to be dominant in the B1G.
    3 points
  37. I've said it many times and I'll say it again. Thomas Bryant would have a resurgence under Archie. The most important difference would be Archie would put Bryant at his natural position. Why Crean tried to make him a wing is beyond my comprehension. Put his @$$ in the post like freshman year and Bryant will once again be a beast

  38. I think my wife volunteered me just to keep me out of the bleachers and away from the loud, annoying, try to command the game from their seats, everyone deserves a trophy type of parents. She knows me all to well.

  39. If we only have room for one of the two I hope we get Bryant back. I have nothing against JBJ and I would love for him to come back for his senior year, but I think TB is the one that's more likely to buy-in to Archie's system. He seems like a kid that really wants to be coached and I think he was done a disservice last year by whoever decided to turn him into a wing. Plus we would have a lot of frontcourt depth if he came back which is always nice.

  40. I would love to have Tom and JBJ back. Talent wise, they are at the top of this team. They are also a part of the prior culture that Archie is trying to change. Easiest way to do that is without the previous star players IF they aren't able to adapt to change. Blackmon has been the same type of player at both ends for 7 years (minus obvious injury time). Tom I don't know on. I didn't watch him in HS. Both want to be a pro. They both have learn how to play defense. I think one goes and the other comes back. Happy Easter!

My Easter with family went well, until I found my 4 y.o. had been hiding and ate half a bag of Jolly Rancher Jelly Beans. Good lord that sugar high lasted about 6 hours! I'm actually surprised his heart didn't explode, but everything is ok, he crashed at 930 last night!

  43. Why do people keep saying the Priller and Gelon need to go? Under good leadership he can develop and the kind of role that Priller fills is invaluable to a team, but not many of you would know anything about that. When Crean finally let the thriller on the floor he was the most aggressive player we had all night. I would say that Bryant and Johnson need to go and develop the correct attitude and then return.

  44. It's funny right? The way some on here talk about him, you'd think he was a sub 10 points a game guy who had no shot at playing professional ball. I'm not saying JBJ is gods gift to earth, but the kid is one of the best scorers in the big ten, and will make lots of money playing professionally at some level, whether that's as a niche knock down shooter in the NBA, or overseas. We would be foolish not to welcome JBJ back with open arms for another season.

  46. I hope so. TB back one more season would do us wonders. The Gelon stuff is just hard to see happening under a new coaching regime. Unless Gelons decision. I'm preparing myself for OG, JB, TB. ANYanyanyany other combination of 3 players would make us better next year. I'm really rooting hard for TB to come back, and I think he should TBH, but it's hard to know what his expectations are. The think the Yogi/Troy stuff has given some misleading hope to our current roster on the odds of making it undrafted. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners
