He met his wife there. He has a relationship with the AD from being hired by him at Temple. If he doesn't take the job if it is offered, I would be shocked. The question is, is he the guy to get them over that dreaded hump we have heard a lot of about around here? Quote
Hoosierfan2017 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 Sounds crazy, but there could be an avenue to Coach Cig being a bigger name than Bob Knight at IU, especially given how Knight’s tenure ended. He’s not getting that anywhere else.. ALASKA HOOSIER, MemphisHoosier and Jeff Flabjohns 3 Quote

Hiring coaches because they played or went to school or are from the town etc is not a winning strategy and has been proven over and over and over. Hire the best coach interested in the job. Loving every minute of it. And feeling like Indiana Football is in a better spot than Penn State football aren’t words I thought I’d ever say once PSU rebounded from the Paterno nightmare that should have ended them in relevancy. I understand moving on from Franklin, as things have gotten toxic the last couple weeks, but I'd be pretty dejected as a PSU fan by hiring a guy whose knock (unable to win big games) is the exact same knock as the guy you fired. Maybe it's the best they can do if they want to go with a proven guy at the major level. But man; it feels like a tough sell. J34 1 Quote

LamarCheeks Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 If I were Virginia Tech, I'd have been on the phone with James Franklin's people within 5 minutes of PSU's press release going out announcing his dismissal. That, to me, just seems like a perfect fit. Pagoda, Hovadipo and rcbowla 3 Quote

VA Tech being good is better for college football. When it's rolling Lane is an awesome college football atmosphere. LamarCheeks 1 Quote

Georgia bouncing Mark Richt for Kirby Smart is the one time I really remember it working. All too often you get a UW situation where they bounced the second best coach they’ve had AND landed the hot young coach they wanted. And you see how that has worked out. Rhule is a good coach but I am not sure his resume is better than Franklin’s. Franklin just made the playoffs, won a game, and narrowly lost to ND. You’re basically betting on change for change’s sake unless we’re missing some behind the scenes info. Quote

I can’t see Kiffin doing but he looks to have finally found his stride as a HC at Ole Miss. He might be the best hire on there for him assuming they can substantially outbid OM. Quote

I think if you asked Lane about taking the PSU job over a couple of beers he’d look you dead in the eye and say “too cold.” Not that Oxford is tropical, but idk if he leaves the south. Quote
