Brass Cannon Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I know it's been asked before, but odds he comes back? I would love it if he came back. Not sure what the odds are, perhaps we should start some sort of campaign to bring him back. Quote

MadAboutIndiana Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I don't see why it would be unreasonable to bring Emmitt back. His offenses really weren't worth mentioning in the grand scheme. He didn't really do anything wrong, besides drink underage--if that's wrong. Would be great to replace Bielfeldt with another seasoned player. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote
Brass Cannon Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Totally hypothetical at this point but we are all out of open scholarships. We have Holts still sitting empty, then three opening up. With 3 players signed and another committed. Now if somebody leaves early. Troy or Bryant wed be able to offer him one. Quote

I'm certain he understood his actions were wrong after the first incident. He chose to make another poor decision and face the consequences of that poor decision. Quote

Agree that he made poor decisions/associations But he didn't do anything wrong the night of the accident besides consume a beer. I am sure he was warned after the first incident, thus the reason he had to go. Coach finally established behavior guidelines, and we have had zero since. I guess he could have just continued to look the other way and let the players run the program. That worked out so well... 8bucks, mdn82 and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote

hoosierpap Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I couldn't disagree more. Emmitt got such a raw deal. Would love the idea of him coming back, and it isn't unprecedented. MartintheMopMan, Dalton26, ThompsonHoosier and 4 others 7 Quote

That worked out so well... State excise--what's the point of citing them in a parked vehicle? At the most, pour it out... Emmitt was not like the others. He did the right thing the night of the accident and faced so much unwarranted vitriol. So basically, getting caught with alcohol at 19 set his life down a totally different path. I am sure he was warned after the first incident, thus the reason he had to go. Coach finally established behavior guidelines, and we have had zero since. Emmitt never got a DUI. Coach didn't establish guidelines by removing Hanner/Davis? That didn't prevent Emmitt/Thomas being cited. Having zero run ins since has zero to do with kicking Holt out. It was a pure PR move. One of the only things I truly hate that Crean's done. Needs to rectify the mistake ThompsonHoosier 1 Quote

That ain't cool They were doing their job...? Look, I did a ton of stupid things when I was younger. I was arrested for underage consumption under slightly different circumstances. Those in charge of me made it very clear that if I were to screw up again I was gone. There would be no ifs, ands, or buts. Did it stop me from consuming alcohol? No, it did make me think twice before consuming alcohol though. I became more aware of who, what, where, and how I was going about partaking in illegal alcohol consumption. Amazingly, I never got caught again and still had an amazing time. I knew if I were caught in a position where alcohol was involved again that I had nobody to blame but myself. Emmit put himself in that situation, again, and had to pay the consequences for it. ALASKA HOOSIER, Naturalhoosier and Str8Hoosiers 3 Quote

And there's no evidence that Emmitt's behavior didn't reflect the needed change in awareness. He just got cited. Were they targeted or setup? Who knows but it's possible My point is only that a kid's future should not pivot like it did over drinking alcohol or even with the weed thing. IUs recent run ins are kindergarten compared to MSU, Illinois, etc. just think kicking Emmitt out was a huge overreaction and unfair to the kid Quote

However, players kept finding their way into trouble with alcohol and weed. One of those incidents included a player ending up in the hospital with a brain injury. I couldn't care less about those other programs being compared to IU. The fact is IU players were abusing alcohol to the point there was a SERIOUS incident and nothing was done. Something had to be done and Emmit put himself in a position to take the brunt of that punishment. You know how Emmit could have stayed with the program? Stay away from those bad influences like he was instructed to do.. Bobman1, Str8Hoosiers, Parakeet Jones and 3 others 6 Quote
