I get it, these are high school kids and they live in their own little bubble, but it's so irritating the way the guys that picked Vandy act like there's only talent in their own class and only if a guy is a McDonald's AA. One guy picked Vandy and said something to the effect of "At IU he'll have to carry the load, but at Vandy he'll have lots of talent around him with Garland and Shittu."

I'll take a senior Juwan Morgan, and even a sophomore Justin Smith, over a freshmen Shittu (even if he was fully healthy) every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Heck, Jerome Hunter could have every bit as good of a freshmen year as Shittu. IU is a way more talented roster.

This was the thought I was going to post as I was catching up on this thread.  The value of a 4th year Juwan Morgan and several other experienced players is seemingly ignored by some of those guys.

The other thing I noticed from that box score is that it must have felt foreign to Reddish to only get 10 shots up for the entire game.

Juwan Morgan would dominate every player on that court last night. Hopefully Romeo sees that. Those kids are good, but they are still freshmen.

Absolutely true.  The value of being surrounded by experienced players that have had time to learn what the college game is all about, learn the respective systems, and become physically prepared for Div 1 basketball, is greater than being able to play with other (inexperienced) freshmen.  Logically the choice at this point should be between us and KU - both have advantages over the other and I'd like to believe we hold an advantage.

My greatest source of optimism is that the Langfords have obviously been methodical in making this decision and that Mr. Langford sure seems to indicate a preference for IU.  That said, who knows?

Off the subject but yes gaming is so huge right now. My 12-year-old and his friends play all the time. I'm pretty sure fortnite is going to be the death of him or me. He said last night I wish I could play fortnite with Romeo we would win for sure. Then said I've heard he is good but I'm a little better. Some days I just sit and listen to what he & all of his friends are saying. I will say they communicate better with the gaming system than they ever have on the basketball court.

Literally said the same thing two nights ago to my 6th grade travel team. No talking on defense=running, but they don't shut up during Fortnite.

I coached a 6th-grade school team and that's what I said too. No talk on the court but on fortnite it's 20 yard north, 15 yards to the east is the bad guy. OR something like that. Unbelievable

We are hedging or jamming ball screens or at least that's what I want to do.. and if they don't talk to do it, it's pretty much pointless.

Just gonna say that talking on Fortnite and communicating in sports are completely different things lol

They really aren't though. Both are incredibly fast paced, both require attention to detail, it's about focus. I play a ton of Call of Duty and communicate well on there.. it's very similar to sports.

I'm not a gamer, but I take interest in it just because it's a big thing in pop culture now.

As I understand it, in Fortnite you can have a 4 man squad to complete objectives and beat other teams.  All 4 guys have a headset, and usually a plan going in.  Of course you have to counter what the other squads are doing as well.  Jerome Hunter just did an interview with Hoosier Network where he was talking about his squad and their strategy to get dubs (Wins).  Two snipers in the back, two guys flanking on either side.  Sounds a little like small ball, no?

I wasn't allowed to have video games growing up, and as an adult I'm not really drawn to playing them.  But I think they've evolved well past donkey kong, or even the nerdy years of Gear or League.  Interesting games, and really the way kids communicate now.

It’s different in the fact that you aren’t in person with your buddies when playing video games. That changes the dynamic quite a bit to the point where communication is absolutely necessary if you want to do well.

In sports, you’re physically there and have certain expectations from teammates because of all the practice you go through. It’s quite different

It's literally essential to communicate to do well in sports. There's honestly no difference.. I could turn my head set off and play COD.. I wouldn't be as good, but I could still play. Wouldn't win as much, exact same thing on the basketball court. In video games, if you play with the other ppl much at all you grow expectations as well... curious do you play online games?

I played high school basketball and online games and find the 2 ways of communicating completely different.

Probably accurate. It’s just something different to discuss that doesn’t get brought up often. I don’t see an issue with it

I think what you aren't factoring in is that we were talking about 6th graders (who suck at communicating).. so when you see how well they can communicate online, you realize they can give you more on the court.

Also interesting response by Louis King. That’s who Romeo was sitting and talking to every time he was on the bench.

The pick: Vanderbilt

Why: “I think him, D.G. and Simi have something planned. They just don’t want to tell anybody.” – White

Yikes.
