(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

Recommended Posts

I'll disagree with Patterson.  Coached against him and scouted him a lot.  He was exceptional. I saw him go for 30+ multiple times and make it look easy.   Long arms, good defender, good rebounder.  Not having him was a blow.   Hollowell?  I knew he'd be a problem.  No heart and no work ethic.  Waste of a scholarship.   But Patterson was the real deal in high school.

Perea was all hype based on athleticism .
Saw him at Bloomington South and a 6'3"guy totally schooled him on blockouts and general basketball plays.Knew then he was a project.
TJD is a better player now than Hanner was when he left IU.

Yep.  I remember hearing all the hype about Hanner and speculation that he could be a one and done.  Then, I finally got to see him play on TV in one of those April pseudo H.S. championship games (not IHSAA) and came away thinking two things: 1) he has no basketball skills, and 2) LL was one woefully coached team.  I held hope that the coaching was what was holding him back, but that was not the main factor.

Yep. I remember watching Parea, Hollowell, and Patterson and didn’t see what the fuss was about. I’m not a paid scout and only watched each play 1 time. I chalked it up to a bad day for them. Turns out my initial impression of Parea just being an athlete, Hollowell decent but not great player, Patterson gritty but shot wasn’t great  were correct. All were vastly overrated and that was the last class Cream went all in on with Indiana kids. He just took the wrong kids.

I didn’t like Jeremy’s attitude or general demeanor, but I felt the skills were there. I truly think he would have done good with other coaches if they could have kept him clean. He was distracted easily. The other two were all project-ability. Hanner having a decent ranking hurt him. Ron was just not a student athlete. If he didn’t have to deal with school he would have been good. Unfortunately for him that’s kind of the deal.

I am not the biggest Brooks fan, but he will be better than these 3. He will be what Hollowell was supposed to be, but not a program changer.

Saw Hollowell play in the g league the other day on TV...pretty much the same player except he's going for a DeMarcus Cousins style with the uniform look. Line beard, headband, compression stuff....he looks the part, still doesn't play like it. He shot the ball on a possession and hit the side of the backboard...it was an uncontested shot.

not surprising, i was so high on him coming out of high school. what a dud.

I started to comment on Brooks but I havent seen enough of him.
I will say what I have seen he strikes me as more athlete than basketball player and also needs to get a lot stronger.

Definitely not a guy that comes in changes your program single handedly but he’s a very good player that can really shine if you pair him with talent. I’d love to have him and TJD playing Archie’s pack line. The length and athleticism in the front court would be insane.

I agree and I think some would be disappointed if they just looked at his ranking and expect him to dominate. He isn’t that guy.

Idk if I would even call him athletic ? Maybe it’s bc I haven’t seen enough of him, idk. The whole pigeon toe thing and he looks like he is moving around on tooth picks just isn’t appealing to me

I don't know about anyone else, but this fat, slow, non jumping, white guy would definitely call him athletic.  :)  And, doing it on "toothpicks" is even more impressive.

I'm not sure if there is any new intel out there to justify switching a CB pick from Indiana to MSU, but looks like that happened yesterday. Just passing along...

Is this VIP pick thing new?

It is. I've noticed it's mostly the old Scout guys who show up as VIP. But, you can look at the history and figure out who the pick usually is.
