(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU

Recommended Posts

2 points each in OT. Must have been a lot of nail-biter possessions

Valpo went into the "4 Corners" for about the last 4 minutes and otherwise slowed the game down too. Gelon had an off night and Stephanovic picked up the slack. Gelon's 2 FT helped ice game in 2nd OT.[attachment=3616:ImageUploadedByBtownBanners1457247373.208162.jpg]

The 16 teams still playing in 4A are all in the top 32 in the Sagarin Ratings.

South Bend Riley meets Warsaw (23-1) in the Michigan City Regional on Saturday, followed by East Chicago Central (18-5) vs. Crown Point (18-8).  East Chicago Central is coming off its first sectional title since 2008 and has a senior in Damien Jefferson who should receive some support for IndyStar Mr. Basketball presented by the Indiana Pacers. Crown Point is led by senior and Indiana recruit Grant Gelon and junior Sasha Stefanovic.

NOTE:  Riley is led by Damezi Anderson so we could have an Anderson / Gelon showdown in the regional final.

Walk on at best.. I would rather have a senior transfer that has other abilities. I will be shocked if he plays much.

i kind of feel the same way but I also felt that way about Hartman. He has became a valuable piece. Etherington never did. Which course does he follow? Also, I realize he is a different player than both of my comparisons. More of a set shooter. I am worried for him but if he is our 13th guy and he is committed to development and staying the course it might work out.

I thought Hoetzel was far better. Shame he needed an attitude adjustment.

I still think Hoetzel is going to be a very good college player. He has a ton of talent. Wish he would've stuck around here. Think we could use him next year

Maybe Gelon can become a Z type contributor in his junior and senior seasons.  Limited minutes but the ability to score from outside and pull the defense out of the paint.  Lot depends on just how much time he'll commit to the gym and weight room.  The new mantra, "does he want to play at IU or for IU?"

I agree here too. He would've fit nicely in CTC's system as well.

Someone mentioned earlier about Etherington and Hartman. I never thought Etherington was a high level D1 player. Hartman on the other hand, I liked his game coming out of HS. Thought he would develop into a nice player. No disrespect but I'd thought he would be a lil better than he is now. Maybe we get that next season. Now I'm not saying he is trash, as I think he is a very important piece to this teams success. Just thought individual skills would be better.

From the second that I first saw Hoetzel's twitter page adorned with a giant weed leaf, I was hoping he'd be a goner.

With Hartman I felt he could be a solid contributor if he was given the chance to develop.  I knew he wouldn't contribute much early.

I saw we just give Grant a shot till he actually comes here and plays. Last offseason I heard the same thing about Beilfeldt, OG, and Juwan. Two years ago it was the same news about Zeisloft. People were saying they were a waste of a scholarship and that they weren't going to help.

So shouldn't we continue saying this so Grant turns out to be a huge surprise and a contributor like the others...?  :scratchhead:
