How is he as a shooter?

Solid, not a Blackmon by any means. Can tell he loves the game so would expect him to become a knockdown guy. He's very strong with the basketball for a sophomore. He doesn't have all the tricks in the bag like Yogi, but he plays a very level headed game. When he gets low and revs it up, he gets where he wants inside the arc.

I don't follow Warsaw basketball so I have no idea what kind of offense they typically run but they've only lost 1 game, so they're doing something right. Yes, it was only 13 - 9 at halftime, but Warsaw scored 33 points in the 2nd half, so clearly they didn't play stall ball the entire game. My take is they wanted to prevent Crown Point from getting into any kind of rhythm with outside shooting and it worked.

Warsaw had 2 players only that were scoring threats. Ref's called a lot of close fouls on Cr Pt. and Warsaw made them. Basically, that's how the spread grew coupled wth CP cold shooting.

Gelon named to the Indiana All-Star squad that will play its Kentucky counterpart June 11, at Banker's Life and June 12, at Bellarmine U. in Louisville.

He will for sure need to add 10-15 pounds of weight. Kid is a stick.

I'm not expecting much from this kid next year. Wouldn't be surprised if he's not even in the rotation. Grew up a Duke fan.

In my opinion, the day the the NCAA went to a shot clock and the three point shot, was the day overall basketball skills went to hell. Emphasis on passing, screening, ball handling, and teamwork, are not near what they once were. No doubt, the average fan enjoys the more up tempo game, and the NCAA wants to keep the fans happy, but in terms of overall skills, it has, (again, in my opinion), diminished a kid's ability to master the whole game of basketball. The four corners offense, while boring, demanded great decision making, passes, ball handling, and mental toughness. On defense, you had to know how to attack it, to beat it. It demanded a lot more effort and employed more strategy that most people think.

while probably not the popular opinion I always enjoyed watching Dean Smith run the 4 corners.lots of discipline which you dont see so much now days.

My guess is he will be lucky to be a Matt Roth guy. Roth scored lots in high school and didn't miss much. I hate to say this but I see Gelon as a transfer next season.

I wouldn't write this kid off yet. Crean has had a good rapport with kids like this. Tough minded, not concerned with fan doubts. Like a Diener or Hulls. Gelon is a bigger, longer, Nick Z with a higher release

Is there that much of a difference between a top 150 and top 300 guy? Or whatever arbitrary cut off you want to have. Hulls did have better schools interested, yes. But it's more about where IU is now. Gelon isn't being asked to do what Jordan was asked to do

Without getting into specifics about RSCI and how it projects a player's collegiate future, yes there is a massive difference between being a top 150 recruit and being barely in/outside the top 300.

I have to disagree. The recruiting ranking guys have it made. Anyone can see who the top 20 are. But I don't think who they rank after the top 100 or whatever is really all that telling. Those guys do favors for access, etc. Who has the eye to rate, rank, compare all of the kids in that 100-500 tier? DWade was once ranked like 313 in his class or something. That's a meaningless ranking as is Grant's. What he brings to the table is what stands on its own. Given the players he will be playing with, it seems to me that he will have a role at IU. Provided he does what is expected of him, and there's no reason to assume he won't do that.

Hulls was also Indiana Mr. Basketball and at least one ranking service had him a 4* recruit.
