UM Graduate Transfer Max Bielfeldt To IU

Recommended Posts

Yea I agree, man.  Do you want to finish in the bottom half of the B1G your last year of playing Collegiate basketball or have a legit chance to win the B1G and pay back the team that didn't offer you a scholarship your Senior year?  To me it's a no brainer, but what do I know, I'm a crazy IU fan that overreacts at everything.

We should just move on. I mean, he can come here and play at a Basketball school, and play on a top 15 team and would get royal treatment on campus. But he'd rather go to Ames Iowa? Lol. Thats the last place i would want to play basketball. West Lafayette sounds better for crying out loud.

If Max is so in the bag for Iowas State that he is waiting for the announcement to be official, he should just go there. Sure I want to have him play for us, but we need to move on. Today before the Hoiberg announcement would be when he should pick us if he is going to.

I would wait 1 hour after the Hoiberg presser and offer the next best 5th year transfer with the message that we will take the first person that accepts the offer.

I guess I don't see why he wouldn't wait. He has a relationship with the assistant, TJ Otzelberger, and could select ISU if he were named head coach. As mentioned above, IU has two open scholarships so there is no real push for MB to commit. I really think the "if you haven't decided by now we don't want you" mentality is strange. Maybe I'm missing the point but he is making an actual decision about his future.

Agreed. Plus, it's June. No one is even on campus right now. It's not like he's missing out on team activities.

Not trying to be a jerk, but it doesn't matter if it's the last place you'd want to play. If it's where Max wants to be, that's what matters.

The players should begin to show up on campus for summer classes.  While they are on campus taking classes, coaches can work out with them individually.  As a group, the team can play in unorganized team activities that would include conditioning and playing against each other in scrimmages and pick up games. I would expect a transfer like Max would benefit from being on campus with the rest of the team.

Right...but that's still 3 weeks away. So...point stands.

Edit: More like 2 weeks, but we should have a decision by then.

There are classes and students on campus now. Hanner and Davis would have been working out and I assume taking the first summer session classes  This week Watford and Sheehey are in town working out.  They would be good to work out with.

My point is, Max delaying his decision makes it harder to get Max, or another player we may be looking at, to be on campus.  Team chemistry is born in the summer workouts. Being together without all the other school activities and distractions creates a training camp environment.  Leadership grows out of the players organizing their informal workouts.

My cousin just started as an assistant coach at VU this spring.  He started this week working with players that have come back to campus.

Again...right. I'm on campus taking classes now too. But Yogi is in Texas, Troy is somewhere else working out, etc. The 2nd summer session doesn't start for another 2 weeks when the freshmen and (likely) everyone else will be on campus. It isn't like Max is sitting at home playing video games. I'm sure he's working out as well. This is the part of the summer where the guys get their "break" even though they're still working on things on their own. I'm sure a couple guys stayed here, but it's not like anything major is going on at all. He can take his time if he wants.

I know the next summer session is coming up and most, if not all, of the players will be back this month. It would be preferable for Max to be in Bloomington when the team comes back to town if he is going to decide to play for us.

Technically, he can wait until the fall if he wanted to. Realistically, he would be behind if he did that.
