I want Tom Crean to stay

Recommended Posts

Thats an odd statement. You feel like assistant coaches and recruits who committed to Crean would stay to a great enough extent we wouldn't be starting over?

You don't let it be the deciding factor.  As I've said before, we've gone down that road and the result was Mike "help is on the way" Davis.

Crean has never earned the seemingly unlimited leash some want to give him, and stability for the sake of stability does nothing, it'll just leave us stuck with a mediocre coach because we're afraid to make a change.

Yes. The world didn't end when Mike Davis wasn't our coach anymore.

Man, this is basketball not real life. It's not that deep. I'm just asking why you feel like the program wouldn't be starting from scratch with a new coach?

So Luke should have been cool with being locked out of his room while his teammates and their homies were smoking weed and stealing his stuff? Especially after going to Crean and nothing being done about it?

Crean botched that situatiin, sorry that's not bad luck.

So this is what actually happened? Yikes Coach.......

I know there is a ton of groupthink going on. I just don't subscribe to the sky is falling theory.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, yet you want to diminish people holding a different view point by labeling it as groupthink. Might not of been your intention, but that is how it comes off.

On a different IU board some were talking with a UK fan about what they'll do when Cal does eventually leave.  Their answer was basically keep trying until we get the right guy.

Completely different mindset from "well, we could do worse" stuff we see about Crean.

Kentucky has completely blown by us in every conceivable way as a program. A year ago I was infuriated when they won games like tonight, but now I'm just like, "meh." I can't bring myself to get mad about it anymore. It is what it is.

Don't get me wrong, I still hate them. Good lord I hate them. But I can respect their administration's desire to be great. They realized they'd made a mistake with Gillespie and what did they do? They went out and offered Cal the bank. Crean just had two seasons that were worse than Gillespie's tenure and our athletic director cowardly issues a press release on "take out the trash day" in media terms to voice his support for him, obviously hoping many wouldn't see it.

The difference is reflected in the behavior of each fanbase. Kentucky is used to playing games deep into March and April. That breeds a confidence that no matter what trouble comes your way, you'll have an answer for it and continue to thrive. All we've done is make excuses and continuously lower the bar in the hopes that things will just magically change some day.

Kentucky has chosen their path, and we've chosen ours. Now, back to my fantasy where IU is amazing and the state of Kentucky is a black hole that's roped off for scientific study.

Because it's not in many players' best interest to leave. Crean started with nothing because he chose to start with nothing. Now, I believe he did the right thing by kicking players out, but a new coach wouldn't have to do that because we don't have a bunch of entitled brats like we did then.

Not at all. It was in response to being told I was a kool aid drinker because I didn't comply with this board's overwhelming opinion.

I have no problem with people wanting a change or disagreeing with me. I do try to avoid the mob mentality though.

Signed ball from team he was taking home as a gift over Christmas break. It was under his bed. One of our current players was smoking weed in the room with his boys and locked Luke out. One of the current players boys stole the ball. Fischer went to Crean and nothing was done. Decision was made when he went home cause he was already homesick before that happened. That was the final straw.

Fair enough. Still think your wording describing the opposing viewpoint on this site and in general is antagonistic. I keep hearing people call this board mob mentality.

I get where it comes from, some of the more pro-Crean fans got "chased off". Though some of them were just as bad, if not worse, than the most anti-Crean fans

Kentucky says "here's the bar, now go reach it".  We said "oh Tom, sorry the bar is too high, let's lower it".  We need to raise the bar for the sake of Indiana basketball.  We need to stop giving free passes like Oprah, stop making excuses.  We need to expect him to reach the bar that should be expected at one of the best programs in college basketball history, we've given him every friggin resource he could need to do so.

The way it's going the bar will get so low Crean might trip over it, can't have that better remove the bar completely.

That is sad........I played college ball with 104 other guys so of course there was some disconnect between some of us and there were some groups within the team with a number that large, but I don't recall anything like that ever happening. You would expect on a team with only a few guys to be a lot closer than that......really makes me sad as a former athlete and as a current coach when I see how Coach Crean handle the situation.

No worries. I respect the passion on this board for sure.

I think a lot of IU fans, not just on this site, diminish how challenging a job Crean and Glass have. The entire dept was a mess and since then the baseball coach and women's ball coach quit. Meanwhile a vocal faction calls for Crean and Wilson to be replaced. It's gotta be trying.

What knowledgeable football fan would call for Wilson's job? We were Nate Sudfeld away from a bowl game this past year. Recruiting and developing talent is a much longer process than for Basketball in my opinion. Give it time and we will have depth where we can sustain an injury to a key starter like that and still be competitive. Plus, the defense started to make strides last season without Regression Mallory calling the defense. Would also help if your students filled up Memorial Stadium on a consistent basis as well. Nothing more embarrassing than a non-existent fan base that chooses to leave after tailgating or halftime of a competitive game when hosting recruits.........sorry for going off topic.....football coach in me couldn't help it

while I think it is sad that 1 injury killed the whole season, you are right, building a football team is harder than a basketball team. Crean needs 5 guys while Wilson needs 22. Crean has everything he needs to be successful, Wilson, not so much
