Is IU Content to be Little Engine that Could?

Recommended Posts

I think the problem we have is the generation of fans, who have no idea how it felt to be a power program. That leads us to be too content, and let things go. We need more objectivity from people.  People need to realize that you can be critical and still be a fan if your objective.  Blind loyalism gets you nowhere but contentment.

I also think it's partly the media's fault.  I think reporters based in Indiana are too afraid to ask the tough questions because Coach Crean and the administration are too obstinate.  I think there all afraid the administration will take away their press passes ( especially for bloggers like ITH).  If we have no voice to keep the administration honest, then the administration will keep making poor decisions (aka, picking 3 consecutive bad coaches, are other sports programs are losing, and handing out bad contracts). I honestly feel the IU Athletics department is in a "let them eat cake" mentality. The infrastructure has to change, but we as alumni or fans are afraid to start trouble.

The biggest concern for me in that article would be that 2 freshman had no idea about the history of indiana basketball before they got on campus. Those statements should be eye opening to people here as to where we stand nationally as program. It's been a rough 20 years as a die hard fan. We have a program problem( regardless of who's coaching at Iu that needs to be fixed) Hopefully smarter people than me can figure it out so incoming freshman in 20 years know the history of the program before they step foot on campus

Ahh yes...the ole "We're lucky to have him" approach. Public relations 101. Did anyone else think that when you read the part about the "source" saying that there's "no question" Crean would be back that the "source" was Crean himself? I mean, NOBODY uses "no question" to respond to questions more than Crean. Bleacher report fodder.

Answer: Yes... I believe Mr Glass & IU are 'content'. And here's the question that everyone wants to know; when/will the little engine ever become 'the' program no one wants to face?

On its current course, it never will. With CTC and Glass running things, the glory days will remain a distant memory.

IU has not won a championship while I have been alive. In fact we have only been to the final four once and I have no memory of that. You're right, I have no idea what it's like to be a power program but god damn I want to know what it's like so bad it hurts. It's hard to take pride in the glory of IU when our last notable achievement happened 10 years before I was born and all my life I've watched us play anything from mediocre to down right bad basketball. I'm sick of it.
I want us to be great just as much as anybody else but the glory days of IU are so distant it's almost just a fantasy and I think that's how most people my age feel about it too.

No question, I think Crean was the source.

You might be right but just hang on youngster and let us ol geezers try to take this to another level. I think you will thank us later.
