It's so incredibly disappointing to to see programs like Alabama swinging for the fences, trying to bring in the best coach they can while we continue to settle for mediocrity. We truly aren't a blue blood program anymore. Our administration seems to be fine with average basketball.

Hard to disagree with this and it's been quiet on the IU side...too quiet.  The coaching status seems to be up in the air right now so I was hoping to get a definitive "Crean is staying" or another nugget that maybe something else is in the works.  Being patient sucks.

I think Crean deciding to resign and go to another school is gone though. He was linked to several schools a week or two ago and now the "insiders" of college basketball don't have his name listed at any of the openings.

This is all a big ploy between the Crimson schools. Alabama wants Crean and we want Marshall. Alabama knows Marshall doesn't want to go there, so they're trying to hurry us up in canning Crean. Likewise, Oklahoma is giving us Bob Stoops once Kevin Wilson gets enough of Stoop's system players on the roster as a thank you for taking Sampson off their hands.

The not knowing for sure is the killer for me. If he is staying I wish some official "he will be back" statement would be put out so we could all move on.

It is odd that there hasn't been a statement by Crean or Glass confirming that he'll be back. Even just saying that he's excited to coach at IU next year.

I think we haven't heard anything yet for a variety of reasons:

1) IU wants to make 100% sure a replacement would take the job. Presumably, the top four candidates are Stevens, Donovan, Miller and Marshall. Two of them are still coaching their current teams.

2) IU also wants to make sure Crean has a job lined up so it doesn't make it look like he was forced out. I've heard that the coaches IU has put out feelers to have requested this as well.

3) Assuming more than one of the targets are interested, they would then have to weigh options and decide who is the best one.

Or, I could be completely wrong and IU is just afraid of the backlash that would inevitably come when they announced Crean was staying.

Is the an established timeline for things like this? I think WatShot has it pretty well covered, but I'm curious what this typically looks like...

For what it's worth, I'm a bit surprised we haven't heard anything either way, unless they are ensuring it will be a smooth transition. Outside of this, I see little to no value in staying silent.

The only reason I'm hopeful is that, like others have said, things have been quiet so far. I see no gain in holding off on announcing that Crean will be back next year (however they would want to word that). If we get through this week without hearing anything, you have to think they're just dotting i's and crossing t's with a coaching change.

That is, unless my logic is flawed and I'm completely missing something.

Marshall is a bloop double. He's ain't beyond the fence.
