mdiu28 Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 It's so incredibly disappointing to to see programs like Alabama swinging for the fences, trying to bring in the best coach they can while we continue to settle for mediocrity. We truly aren't a blue blood program anymore. Our administration seems to be fine with average basketball. IU Hoosier41, theriverpilot, MikeRoberts and 2 others 5 Quote

The coaching status seems to be up in the air right now so I was hoping to get a definitive "Crean is staying" or another nugget that maybe something else is in the works. Being patient sucks. I think Crean deciding to resign and go to another school is gone though. He was linked to several schools a week or two ago and now the "insiders" of college basketball don't have his name listed at any of the openings. Class of '66 Old Fart and LazOffTheBench 2 Quote

He was linked to several schools a week or two ago and now the "insiders" of college basketball don't have his name listed at any of the openings. This is all a big ploy between the Crimson schools. Alabama wants Crean and we want Marshall. Alabama knows Marshall doesn't want to go there, so they're trying to hurry us up in canning Crean. Likewise, Oklahoma is giving us Bob Stoops once Kevin Wilson gets enough of Stoop's system players on the roster as a thank you for taking Sampson off their hands. thebigweave 1 Quote
Trish Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 So is the consensus now that crean will be staying? it's only been a few days... LazOffTheBench 1 Quote

Walking Boot of Doom Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I was at said game, it was far from a ghost town. On the contrary AH was mostly full and rockin. I was there as well and can vouch that the crowd was pumped. The balcony was a little under staffed, but AH was loud and electric. Quote

It is odd that there hasn't been a statement by Crean or Glass confirming that he'll be back. Even just saying that he's excited to coach at IU next year. theriverpilot 1 Quote

hoosierpap Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 That he is coming back? Things are pretty quiet, I'd lean that way but the whole silencing has been odd. Feathery 1 Quote
TheWatShot Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 I think we haven't heard anything yet for a variety of reasons: 1) IU wants to make 100% sure a replacement would take the job. Presumably, the top four candidates are Stevens, Donovan, Miller and Marshall. Two of them are still coaching their current teams. 2) IU also wants to make sure Crean has a job lined up so it doesn't make it look like he was forced out. I've heard that the coaches IU has put out feelers to have requested this as well. 3) Assuming more than one of the targets are interested, they would then have to weigh options and decide who is the best one. Or, I could be completely wrong and IU is just afraid of the backlash that would inevitably come when they announced Crean was staying. Feathery 1 Quote
Bryan Medema Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 Is the an established timeline for things like this? I think WatShot has it pretty well covered, but I'm curious what this typically looks like... For what it's worth, I'm a bit surprised we haven't heard anything either way, unless they are ensuring it will be a smooth transition. Outside of this, I see little to no value in staying silent. Hovadipo Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 The only reason I'm hopeful is that, like others have said, things have been quiet so far. I see no gain in holding off on announcing that Crean will be back next year (however they would want to word that). If we get through this week without hearing anything, you have to think they're just dotting i's and crossing t's with a coaching change. That is, unless my logic is flawed and I'm completely missing something. GloryDays, theriverpilot and Bryan Medema 3 Quote
ElectricBoogaloo Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 'Bama planning to make "a big run" at Marshall? Roll Tide! Sounds like football school talk. Maybe they can tackle him? It may be a football school but SEC money goes a long way. Of course, Big Ten money goes a long way too... LazOffTheBench 1 Quote
