WOW! This fanbase is amazing. No one on here has a clue as to what is happening out there. You want to know what is going to happen. Absolutely nothing...status quo! We all want to see this program back in national prominence but we don't make the decisions. Crean is going nowhere and all of this back and forth between the same 20 individuals on this forum with all of this so-called "insider info" isn't even entertaining anymore. What do you folks want Glass to do...hold a news conference stating that he and the University are behind CTC? I believe he has said this numerous times the last couple of months and somehow it is not registering in heads of many. Crean is not going anywhere before next season. Asking our AD to continuously come out and offer support for our coach just makes our fanbase look like morons (see pUKe fans)! When it happens, it will happen.

I haven't seen many, if any, say Marshall is their first choice. It seems fans are saying they'd be okay with Marshall as a plan C or something along those lines. He'd be a fine choice as a third option IMO, but that's about as high as he should be.

4th through 6th for me. Do I think he is better than Crean at knowing about basketball? Absolutely.

However, most of us want a homerun hire and are holding onto hope. If we get a Miller or Marshall, it'll be a mixed reaction. I hope we aren't relegated to that route.

Crean has coached some really ugly basketball for 2 straight years though. Problems persist. The fanbase is right to be upset and anxious.

Then it depends which side of the fence our boosters fall on. Will they say mediocrity is unacceptable, that status quo isn't good enough, that IU can and will do better or are they content with being an also ran? Will they awaken the lion and let him remind the jackals who he is, or let him sleep while the jackals eat his food?

I hope it's the former, but unfortunately I think it's the latter. If it's the latter we can forget about ever reclaiming our place among college basketball's royalty and it will have nothing to do with what the program is capable of, it'll because the decision makers don't give a crap.

Correct. They aren't listing him as their first choice, but at the same time, they take a swipe because Alabama is actively after him and we are not.

If he's not our first choice why do we care what Alabama does with him while we're waiting on our choices above him? The only other option is to go after him and forget about choices 1,2,3 etc.

 

If we are working the back channels for a home run, great, but if all we're doing is looking for new blood and a minor upgrade, then might as well keep Crean a season until a home run is available

If we were to land Thomas Bryant and the core of our team returns, on talent alone we will be pushing 25 wins next season and likely be top 3-4 in the big ten and then Sweet 16/Elite 8. Would Glass fire Crean after that? I don't see it happening unfortunately

Marshall is way better than a minor upgrade over Crean and a homerun hire compared. Just take a look at his record of winning then compare it to Creans record of not winning. I can't think of many coaches who wouldn't be upgrades; for starters look at any other coach in the Big. Any would be an upgrade.

I think you're underrating Marshall and overrating Crean. He's more than a minor upgrade, all he's done is win and win consistently for 17 years while Crean has never won consistently in 16.

I think a coach that has won his conference 9 times in 17 years is a good bit better than a coach that has only managed 2 in 16, but I'm crazy like that.

I remember him.  He can be really abrasive, but he's a knowledgeable poster.  From my experience he's pretty pleasant in PMs though.

 

He was critical of Crean going back to the early years.  Kept talking about Crean's half court offense being stagnant and how we struggle if we can't get out and run, many posters told him to wait until Crean had a roster full of his players and it'd be different, I was in that same camp at the time, but here we are after year 7 and he was right all along.

 

I just read the other board, and Gocolts adds a lot of knowledge to the limited discussions on that board. No disrespect to Coach Knight, GoColts posts like Coach Knight coached at times. He can make things interesting.

I think Coach Marshall does a great job of getting his players to play hard no matter how much "talent" he may or may not have. And in my mind that is at least half of playing good basketball. Thats my kind of basketball! Combine that coaching ability with more recruiting power that would come from coaching at a place like IU and I could see him being a very successful coach here. Coach Miller I think has had too limited a career to get behind just yet. That being said, my heart is set on Coach Stevens. Pipe dream or not, that kind of excitement around a program can lead to alot of positive dominos falling and I think he would be the ideal coach and representative of Indiana basketball.

I can only imagine the buzz that would be in the air in this state if Stevens ended up at IU...........sadly I just don't ever see it happening
