Potential fallout from coaching change

Recommended Posts

This. At this point if we handed the keys to Archie Miller, I wouldn't bat an eye.

. Like his brother, he will end up flourishing at a top tier program. He's the most intriguing guy for me. Stevens is the obvious no brainer but Archie Miller is superstar coach in the making. Dude can flat out coach. He has the exact same issues that we have this year and nowhere near the talent everywhere else and he's grossly outperforming Crean. He's gotta be given consideration.

Not arguing if he will be a great coach at a top program but who has Dayton really beaten this year?

This is what I expected to happen but hoped wouldn't happen. This is precisely why I have zero confidence that they will hire the right guy when the time comes. What a mediocre, superficial, shell of the program we used to be we've become. This sucks. Nothing personal, Coach Crean.

You need to stop putting so much stock in an interview Fred Glass all but had to grant to the BHT.

This means nothing.  At all.

My problem with this is him doing the interview. He knows the fan base is to say the least in a very foul mood and want change now. Why go into the interview and stir everything up even more? This was a very dumb move on his part IMO.

Fred stuck his neck out with the crean contract, what else can he do? He's got to try bolster his position by refusing that he's been mistaken in trusting success to TC.

Did anyone see the rest of the interview? Such weird comments out of an AD...

“I’m really disappointed in the rough patch just like everybody else in Hoosier Nation, including Tom and the team,” Glass said. “I truly am. I go to all the games. I don’t like the losses we’ve had, but just like I wasn’t popping champagne corks in January, I’m not ready to slit my wrists now. I sense that some people are starting to pull the razor blades out of the medicine cabinet. I encourage them to put them back.”

Also of interest is the part of the interview where Glass explains why Crean's buyout is not as big an issue as some people think. ( I can't link or quote from my computer so maybe someone else could put that up. )

"The buyout in some quarters is overblown," Glass told Miller. "I get that it's a big number. What people don't realize is, if that were to occur, it would get paid out over five years. It's not like he gets a $10 million dollar check and walks out the door.

"It gets paid out over time as if it were his regular salary over five years, which mitigates the impact on the department and it has a set-off provision so that if he went to another school or to TV or had some other employment, that gets set off.

"I hesitate to even talk about it because it makes it seem like that's some sort of consideration. It's not. My main point is Tom is the coach here because I think he needs to be the coach here, not because we feel backed into it because of the buyout."

Quite possibly the least PC metaphor I've seen in recent memory lol. That's kinda brutal.

No, this is exactly what I was told this morning in a conversation with someone who works in the department. His words to me we're, "he (Crean) is making it difficult on Fred, but he"ll (Fred) stick with Crean."

I think we're kidding ourselves if we don't take what Fred is saying with some weight. Why the heck do the interview if you're gonna fire him? Nobody made Fred say anything.

An AD comes out and says these thing before a season starts or maybe during a rough patch at in the middle of the season.. . It would be odd to say them three weeks before you can him.
