Crean sucks, Fred Glass sucks, and IU basketball sucks because of it. The brass should be held accountable. Too bad there's nothing a fans can do, except not buying tickets

I'm with ya. 35 year fan and I refuse to accept this crap. Sure the fans can't fire Crean but we still have a say. We have to keep the heat on. Honestly, and I hate to say it, us Hoosier fans need to take a lesson or two from Big Blue fans and their refusing to accept mediocre basketball. Our program history is just as good a UK, Duke, ect. and we should be at the top of college basketball with them. No excuses.

I think a big part of the problem is the acceptance of medicore which can even be seen on a fan forum like this one for example. Only true IU basketball fans post here yet we continually hear the same excuses. Crean inherited a mess. We're not one of the bluebloods any longer. We just need to accept the fact that other Big Ten schools are now better. These are some of the more popular ones for sure. Continuing to accept this garbage will lead to another decade of the same. Unfortunately, our AD is still sticking with his captain, and imo the whole house needs to be cleaned. A new coach would feel better being supported by a newly hired AD where both of their expectations are national championships. Its time to get back to true indiana basketball.

It's possible that 2 year run is as good as it'll get with Crean, and that shouldn't be good enough.  And even in those 2 years only one even met expectations, the other underachieved even if some don't want to admit it.  He's just not a particularly good coach, and his resume reflects it.  We're talking about a coach that has only won his conference twice in 15 years, he's only finished in the top 3 four times.  His career record is 295-193, or 60.5% (like it or not, officially his early years here do count on his record).  Just focus on his Marquette career, and he's 190-96 with 1 conference title and a top 3 finish 3 times in 9 years.  Take away the name Tom Crean, give that record to any random Joe and we'd be saying that guy has no business coaching one of the all time best programs.  He's not a good coach, the evidence to support that is mounting.  He's not necessarily bad, but he's not good either; he's mediocre.

 

I'm tired of the excuses.  Yes we lost Fischer and Devin, but it's his job to win regardless.  It's his job to build a roster, and two years in a row he's done a poor job of it.  Sure he's gotten good players to sign, but there's more to recruiting than that.

 

We offer a coach everything they need to win big, I think Indiana is a sleeping giant just needing the right coach to awaken it.  We need to stop making excuses, stop accepting mediocrity.  Start saying here's the expectations, you're paid 3+ million a year to meet those expectations, now go do your job or get steppin'.

 

EDIT:  Sad thing is, we're not even mediocre right now.  We're aspiring to be mediocre, we're just plain bad.

It's gotten so bad for me, after the Lamar game that I don't care if I watch the game anymore. I haven't watched the last 2 and don't care if I see anymore the rest of this season. I'm not a bandwagon fan either. My 31 years of watching IU bball (even CTCs 1st season) my world comes to a halt because the IU game is on. This season, I could care less and that's very difficult for me. I'm not accepting mediocrity anymore! Won't do it. Guys haven't we seen enough?? I'm having an extremely hard time supporting some of these ungrateful young men on this team.

I just can't believe we've fallen off so bad since Victor and Cody left.  I really want Coach Crean to make it happen, but I honestly feel that the Sweet 16 teams that he had might be the pinnacle of his career while at Indiana.  Fred Glass has also seemed to be a guy that I like, and I know that he's got a tough job as well, but I just don't see how he can keep Crean after another season of not making the tournament.  I know that we have a lot of Season left before it's all said and done, but I've seen nothing thus far that would lead me to believe that this a team that can reach the tournament much less make any noise in it.  I appreciate how Fred Glass has given Coach Crean a lot of loyalty, but is it worth it if holding on to a Coach too long gets your fired?

For me, it's got to be better than making the tournament. We should be conference title contenders most years, and be able to make a run in the tournament. I expect IU to be a threat every year. We should demand excellence.

It's a different world and I get all coaches are dealing with it, but Coach Knight would have a Senior Cody and a Sophomore Vonleh at his disposal this season and we'd be top 3.

Yea i don't even see a one game bounce in the tourney as means to keep Crean so he has a steep hill to climb. Attendance is down now and he has lost the IU faithful.

We just need to be very smart about the next hire. Nobody unproven, no up and comer who coincidently doesn't have a good tourney record. We need a seasoned vet who wants the glory of being the captain of this ship. Now that we have drug/alcohol abuse on the roster, all thar Crean has done is improve the GPA to a solid standard. His rebuild is mostly shot in the foot now. Any coach could have put IU were it is now program wise. Ok, Crean is a very nice guy and would be an amazing car salesman. Cool, now what..

That isn't a valid argument at all. So even if a coach proves they aren't right for a position it is okay because it isn't apparent there is someone that can be got that is in the right fit?
