So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

Recommended Posts

I simply refuse to see Crean making it past this season unless we make the tournament. Making the tournament 2 out of 5 years (giving Crean 2 years of "credit" for his first 2 years) is UNacceptable at any major program and this isn't just ANY major program (despite our 13 year drought from the Final 4).

I bet that once ridiculous site firetomcrean.com is getting some more hits tonight.

He has lost the crowd. There is no going back now. Nail in coffin. Let him play out the season and let the boosters step in.

I had never left a game early, until Monday night. I could not watch a group of college players with the basketball IQ of grade school players for another minute. My daughter is going to the game on Friday. I need a break.

I don't want anyone but Stevens. Richard Pitino is a coach I would like us to take a look at. Marshall has had some good teams, but is it because he got lucky stealing some under rated recruits away and building the perfect storm, or is he really a good coach. I would want to wait to see if he can sustain his success.

Yes, I do only because I live in SEC territory. He is very undervalued by everyone in a football conference. The same goes for UK believe it or not except for the inbreds in their state. All the talk is always gator football and it always will be. It would cost us, but he would be worth every penny. Lights out recruiter also. Every Indiana burger boy would stay home, and he wouldn't need to leave IN, Ohio, and IL to recruit much like the General.

Completely agree with this. I also live in SEC country and any time that I try to talk to Florida grads in my office about hoops, they can't name the coach or anyone on the team and they look at me like I have three heads.

Get a guy with a ring or rings. No more "Well he made it to the final four once long ago" crap. Maintain the academic level thats in place...and lets be honest...Marnie, Timmy G, and hopefully coach jackson would probably be retained. Go get the guy who can recruit the midwest and nationally to fill the holes. Go get the guy who understands that when a defense gives up 3 straight buckets during a momentum swing, its ok to use a timeout. Go get the guy who sees the bench as a teaching tool instead of a revolving door. Go get the guy who will hate to lose to Purdue AND Syracuse....AND ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING TO AVOID IT AGAIN. Go get the guy who sees this place as a destination job. Go get the guy who keeps coaching even in the postgame interviews instead of reading bullet points. Does that guy exist? Probably. Do I know who that is? Nope.

You know every time in a person's life, you ask yourself what the next challenge is.  Coach K asked himself that question when he flirted with idea of going to the Lakers.  He stayed ultimately, because he built a legacy at Duke from the ground up, and it was too hard to let go.

Donovan on the other hand, has done everything he could possibly do at Florida.  He didn't build it from the ground up, and well no matter how hard he tries, it's always going to be a football school.

If paid right, the chance to coach at University that worships basketball, and is desperate ( I think we are at this point) to win a championship some day is enticing.  My point being, it doesn't hurt to aim for the heavens. It only hurts if we don't try.

I am 33 years old and have never seen IU make a decent hire in the two biggest sports...the only one that might count is Hoepner. The only other decent hire total is Tracy Smith...they have screwed up Football multiple times, Basketball Multiple times, and Soccer. I have absolutely zero hope they can get it right...

I don't believe Brad Stevens will come...I don't think they will be able to get any established coach at all actually.

The only hope I see is to convince a group of younger IU alums to pool their knowledge as a hard working staff that could really recruit the midwest...a staff of Cheaney, Fife, Lewis, Guyton, and maybe Mike Roberts or someone to stay on campus would likely have a shot at being pretty good. They would have coached under the likes of Knight, Stevens, Izzo, and Crews and would have NBA experience, recruiting experience, game prep experience etc...

I don't believe it has to be an IU guy but I don't think anyone else would come.

I just want a stable, winning, good student-athlete team. Is that not too much to ask for?

That recruits at a high level, but has 4-year players that can contribute. Oh and those players should stay out of trouble. And get excellent grades. Oh, and they should understand what it means to be a Hoosier. And they should eventually make it to the NBA and have excellent careers, but they shouldn't leave until we're ready to let them go.

This fanbase demands a lot. I will be very interested to see who can give us everything we're asking for one day.

We are a demanding bunch-----the grass is always greener on the other side until we get the grass and then we don't like that grass either.  Maybe if our grass/Crean has another subpar year----we actually go for the more expensive artificial surface this time with a can't miss --big time---hire.  Otherwise, the saga of the grass continues.

Deep---think about it.
