Hovadipo Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Thon is probably one of the best rim running big men to ever play the game honestly. Well, that take is piping hot. Thon is awesome, but it's a little early for "best (insert attribute) ever" when a kid is an unpolished Junior in HS. Definitely agree with the unquoted parts of your post though. lillurk, Walking Boot of Doom and ElectricBoogaloo 3 Quote

Well thats not honestly what I meant. Taken out of context yea it looks bad but I meant like out of all the high school guys right now he probably is. The kid can handle the ball like a point and bring the ball up and initiate offense. Definitely not the best ever (didn't mean that), but there haven't really been a lot like him. Quote

Demo Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I understand wanting him over Thon but a few of things you name Thon Maker definitely does better. Thon is probably one of the best rim running big men to ever play the game honestly. He is basically Kevin Durant with post moves. I would be thrilled with either one but Bryant and Maker are two completely different players. I think either one takes us in the elite again. I just think landing Thon Maker would mark a huge shift in recruiting for us. If can land a top 5 recruit, I think we'll start landing more Ok, just to clarify, if Thon Maker busts out an IU hat at some press conference the next thing I'll be busting out is the single malt. The kid is an extraordinary talent and anyone takes him. Maybe he comes in and in his 1 year of college dominates to the point where he helps carry us to the promised land. Could absolutely happen. But based on the times I've seen him live, small 2 game sample size, the kid is pretty poorly coached, highly ball dominant, and not very sound defensively. I can see him stopping the ball on offense a lot and I can see him spending a lot of time sitting with fouls.I can see us struggle to fit his offense in with what we have. I can see our staff doing a great job of developing him both physically and skill-wise just in time for him to head to the League. Long way of saying I can see him being brilliant or a little bit of a heartbreaker. I watch Bryant, bigger sample size, 5 games, and I just see a perfect scheme and skill fit. I can see 10 and 7 as a Frosh, 15 and 10 as a Soph and off to the lottery. Love the kid. But if we get Maker, yeah I'lol be ok with that. bnkepner, HoosierTrav, Walking Boot of Doom and 2 others 5 Quote

Maker is more of a stretch big while Bryant seems to be a more traditional post up guy. So with Maker we'd have to form an offense around him most likely, but if Sampson could do as well as he did with an offense based on Gordon, we could be pretty lethal with an offense based around Maker. I think with Bryant we could keep our offense scheme and work him into it and we would still be cooking with oil. With either one, we would be a team to be dealt with on a national level! I think we stand a good chance of getting one of them and I hope we do Quote

Jketch Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Not sure if this has already been put on here but I found this quote from Thomas on what he wants from a team. I feel IU can give him all of these aspects. "Just the coaches' standpoint, how they're going to utilize me. Are they going to be one-dimensional or can I come out and do a lot of things for the team, not just be one-dimensional for them," Bryant said. "And also, who they have and who I want to play with. That's one big thing I want to see. Who's still going to be there and who really wants to play with me and whether I want to play with them. I want to see who's still there, if anybody's graduating or going to the NBA Draft." WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

MartintheMopMan Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 From ESPN insider article on Hoophall Classic (article by Jeff Borzello, dated Jan 19th): Which side will win out for Thomas Bryant? The five-star big man (No. 16) has Syracuse, Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri on his list, but his mother has openly pushed for the Orange as Bryant's future destination. When asked by ESPN.com about that over the weekend, Bryant was succinct: "That's her opinion." The other schools involved for Bryant aren't backing off in the slightest, and Kansas has even made overtures to try to get back in the mix. "I'm not set on one school," he said. "I'm taking all the options I have and if one seems better than Syracuse, I'll go to that school. If Syracuse seems better than the other ones, then I'll go to Syracuse. I gotta look for the best program that fits me." Bryant wants to set an official visit to Kentucky for the coming weeks. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/ncbrecruiting/on-the-trail/post?id=12732&refresh=true hoosierpap 1 Quote
