The problem is the longer you stay the more they pick you apart. And Mullins isn’t an NBA athlete, so I’d probably go if I were him if I’m getting top 20 money. I really like McNeely but if he can’t get out of the G league his faults would’ve got picked apart the longer he stayed in college and he might not have been drafted at all had he stayed 3-4 yrs. Yeah a guy like Karaban is the perfect example of your point on McNeeley. Wonder how much he has made at UConn over four years... Hurley said on the Dan Patrick show Mullins would probably make the same at UConn next year as he would being the 15th pick. For whatever that's worth (I doubt he was being very exact). Google says McNeeley's contract is worth 5.6M guaranteed, total value 14.1M if they take the team option. Rookie salary 2.7M next year 2.9M. He was 29 overall last year. You're definitely right in most cases the longer you stay in school the lower you fall in the draft since there's less "potential" to project etc. And for most guys it's probably best to go asap. Still think every situation is unique so maybe if you trust the staff you're with your development plan and think you have a chance to improve from ~25 give or take 5 spots to top 10, you consider giving it a shot if you're not losing money vs rookie salary / guaranteed money. I don't think UConn has close to as much NIL as people imagine but with Reibe leaving and Hurley making these comments publicly I imagine he will give it his best shot at swaying Mullins to stay. Dad seems pretty bought into Hurley so we will see... still, business decision in the end. str8baller 1 Quote
Solsberryberries Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Imagine… You just won the National Championship, the transfer portal is in full swing, but you carve out time to interview with… let’s see… that can’t be right… the Odon Journal?!?!? That’s right! If you want to weep, mourn and vomit, listen to Dusty May talk about southern Indiana life and basketball here. I know the interviewee. https://thejuicebytheodonjournal.podbean.com/ ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

There is certainly a role for him in the NBA, but undersized power forwards struggle unless they can consistently hit the three in the NBA. I wish him well. ebridges24 1 Quote

I wish him well. Shot the same # of threes in one season at the U vs all 3 years at IU and hit 35% so he's got a chance. And if it doesn't pan out, Reneau can always set up a YouTube channel and review arena concessions across America. Quote

Though I never understood why Happy was spending money to buy good players to win big, but he also had them shave points. Big conflict! I’d guess the writers wanted to show him having total control, but as we know boosters don’t manipulate players to shave points (to my knowledge). That’s a mob thing. Anyways, I still love that movie. So over the top. Quote

Honestly -- with as much money as some of these dudes pour into programs, I'm not gonna be surprised at all when a drunk, pissed-off booster shows up at a post-game presser after a bad loss and goes ballistic like Happy did. jermhoosierfan 1 Quote

Jeff Flabjohns Posted Friday at 05:03 PM Posted Friday at 05:03 PM Their AD just stepped down too I think. Gard’s a good coach…their roster far outperformed the NIL for it last year. No sympathy from me though. Poverty program. Fickell being a train wreck there has been so satisfying. Pagoda 1 Quote

They had a pretty decent 25 year run, especially in football. At our expense along the way too. They're still pretty good in hoops. Obviously college sports changed. They're a big state school with a 76K football stadium and their athletic dept generates quite a bit of revenue. I'm kinda surprised they've struggled so much with NIL. I guess at the end of the day, they don't have (i) very rich booster(s) engaged with athletic donations, and (ii) "alignment" throughout the university. Too bad, so sad. Quote
LIHoosier Posted Friday at 05:25 PM Posted Friday at 05:25 PM So does Wisky move their IU home game to a quasi neutral game in Milwaukee so our Call Center un-streak lives on? Quote

They just don’t care about athletics that much.* Their legislature just passed a $10mil boost to their AD to help out with NIL, too. I have met their AD (or now fired AD?). He wanted a clean break from the Alvarez era and to do things his own way. It all sounded pretty dumb to me, but he at least knew if the Fickell thing fell through he was toast. I’ll give him that much. He was a former OL, had a cup of coffee in the NFL, and then made some money on a biotech startup-up out in NY or something. It’s one thing to think you’re smarter than everyone else. It’s another thing to prove it. Whether Dolson got lucky with the Cig hire or not, he and whitten have proven they can maneuver through this NIL era about as well as any. I’ll give them that for sure. *(They may not be that smart either. I have a couple stories). Quote
