woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Got word yesterday morning that my 94 year old mother has been moved to hospice, She's had a good, long life, but has struggled over the past several years with declining health - a broken hip, a couple of strokes and now diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer... I'd appreciate your prayers for a quick and peaceful end of life. As a family, we have known that this day was coming but it doesn't really make it any easier to accept. The company I worked for and company that was open for 79 years, told me the Thursday before Christmas they were closing down the next day and to have all my stuff out. I feel your pain. I was able to get back on my feet (I think, still in training at new place), but I will pray you are able to find something soon. Good luck and wish you the best. I had a gut feeling for awhile that it was coming I just didn't know when. Back in 2013 the manager that I previously reported to had left the company so for me it created some uncertainty about what was going to happen and am I safe in my position. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Asking for prayers for the family of Dr. Gregory Bell. Dr. Greg Bell was a member of the 1956 U.S. Olympic team and won the gold medal in the broad jump as it was called at that time. He never lost a collegiate competition in the long jump, won two NCAA titles, and twice came within about an inch of Jesse Owens’ world record. At the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, he won the long jump, becoming the first native Hoosier to be an individual gold medalist in track and field. I had the privilege to enjoy Dr. Bell's stories as a fellow Rotarian and the honor to hold his Olympic gold medal in my hand. At one of our Rotary meetings people were discussing his gold medal jump and trying to visualize the distance. He got up and walked to the end of the room and started walking back looking at the ceiling that consisted of the typical 2' x 4' tiles. He got to a point; stopped; pointed up at the ceiling and said it was this far! Plane had 60 passengers and 4 crew members. Chopper had three people aboard. Looking as if there are no survivors. 8bucks Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Would appreciate prayers for my father-in-law. 93 years old and up to 2018 he would work about 5 hours a day out in his garden. Dementia started to set in and we moved them in with us for a few years then into a home. Got the call today that he is taking a turn towards what looks like the end. Great guy. Not often you get great in-laws but I got lucky. He and my wife would often go to IU games together (she grew up in Btown) and it was her true knowledge of the game that made me know she was the one. Losing parents is rough...My dad's been gone 15 years on Wednesday... Praying for you, your wife and your family... at 93 he's had a good long life, but it doesn't make it any easier... and dementia is such a horrible disease... Quote

We moved away from Indiana 3 years ago and in that time lost both my parents (83) and now perhaps another. That adds another level of complexity. Have noticed dementia with my grandmother who is 89 years old her long term memory is good but her short term memory is not great. Think it started to get worse when my grandfather died but I noticed things before than. Smart lady always knew her flowers and chemistry would spend countless hours in her garden I'd call to talk to her and my grandfather would either say she's still out in the garden or in the shower after having just gotten in. 8bucks 1 Quote

AZ Hoosier Posted August 23 Posted August 23 I just got a call from my son. My 16 year old grandson was injured in football practice on Wednesday. They just got the report from the MRI and CT scan. It's not good, and I'd appreciate your prayers. He has: Complete ACL tear Complete MPFL tear (ligament that connects the patella to the femur) Partial MCL tear Lateral miniscus tear Gastrocnemius tear (calf muscle tear) Tibia fracture Femur fracture thru growth plate, which is still open The doctor is very concerned about blood clots and compartment syndrome, and we are waiting to hear what the next step is.
