Hmm... interesting topic. This is obviously something that will come up with Isiah and of course he'll say that.

My opinion:

Similarities: Able to instill fundamentals and a team-oriented culture.  Prefers shorter, intense practices.  Strong tacticians, students of the game.  Program builders.   Gravitas/charisma.  Sense of humor.  Not resource dependent to win.  That's a lot of great similarities.

But their personalities are almost completely different.  Cig is really a pretty normal guy for a football coach.  This is pretty clear in off the field interviews, best example being when he picked up a Face Time from the Field of 68 guys and just joked around while walking around his house.  He's generally quiet in practice.  And yea he's a football coach who will erupt and make a point when he has to, but that's to be expected.  He's confident and likes to talk a little trash, but those are big net positives.

At this point, we don't need to rake RMK over the coals for this, but he obviously had a problematic temper that could go off at any moment anywhere.  RMK in practice and games was very different from Cig -- he ran hot as we know.  To be fair to RMK he did a lot of underappreciated good things too.

Both great coaches, but very different people.

Cig coaches against complacency and RMK coached towards perfection which creates a lot of similarities, especially when they might get interviewed after a good half or a game. Both don’t dole out cookies and tend to find a few things to get pissed about that most of us miss cuz we are celebrating the wins.

Crazy Oregon dropped that far but I was not impressed.  I do expect they will get better.

Michigan out of the poll and now the MAC is asking the NCAA to award them the game siting B1G officials not following proper replay protocols.  Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

IU deservedly in top 5.  I looked at a lot of the voting some had us as low as 8 some at 1.  What will week 2 bring in CFB lol

I would much rather be sitting where IU is now than trying to figure out what happened with Michigan barely (losing) I mean winning, lol vs. W. Michigan and Oregon’s performance vs. Boise State.

Cig is the most candid in these longer form Thursday shows with Fisch.  At least compared to the pressers.  It's the most insightful look into IUFB right now imo.

Some notable comments:
- Gave last week a C-
- Noted the rat poison in the media (we have the best DL, etc.)
- He needs to be more hands on now vs. last year's team
- Definitely some praise in here too

All of the above isn't too surprising.  Every team is different and a work in progress at this point in the year.

Lots of inferences from Cig that Haines had a bad week. Comments about lack of preparation and N. Texas packages that we didn't expect, with the concession that there was no reliable film on the new N. Texas staff.

More inside info from Cig:

  • Khobie Martin fractured multiple bones in his forearm bracing his fall when he got knocked over on a blitz pickup.
  • Sharpe and Harris are out with a twisted ankle and a concussion. He didn't say which one had which.
  • The last ten minutes is Fisch interviewing Amare Ferrell. It's by far the most I've ever heard Ferrell speak, and he does an excellent job. Here’s a revelation from Ferrell; Fisch has not heard of Amare’s favorite musical act, NBA YoungBoy, and Amare has not heard of Fisch’s favorite musical act, Frank Sinatra. Hopefully neither Fisch nor Ferrell have modeled their personal lives after their musical heroes.     :}

I can’t know for sure but I read Sharpe was in concussion protocol.  That would put the ankle issue to Harris who has had some ankle issues in fall camp — if it’s the same ankle who knows.  It’s probably more likely than not.

I guess the upside with Khobie is he can sort of keep up his cardio and if thosr bones can fully heal he’ll be pretty much back to normal.  Fingers crossed.

Personally, I took it more that he wasn’t happy with the players. He admitted they expected WVU stuff and didn’t get it. Not much you can do there besides hold them to 3 which we did a good job of.

Players got got by the rat poison and I’d venture a guess that it wasn’t fun to be on that side of the ball this week.

F**k it. Pray for Howard.

North Texas really was the perfect storm.

Defense hadn’t gotten punched in the mouth yet. Our biggest question mark at depth had two injuries. The relocation to the surface of Venus. A dynamic QB who while flawed is no dummy. And an offense that we had no film on.

If we look that rough the next 4 weeks I’ll be worried

  • Oregon
  • Howard
  • That rat poison ingesting IU defensive line.
