Home Jersey Posted April 9 Posted April 9 That Gottlieb interview could’ve just been the last 20 seconds… his point being IU has a huge fan base, all the financial support needed to win, and great tradition / facilities. The problem has been continuity, chemistry and coaching. He rightly sees IU as a sleeping giant, but the others rightly note many people don’t see it that way anymore. So right now it may be hard to pull assistants from E8 teams, because we are building. DDV has a way of doing things. Once he has it rolling, we will be one of the programs that’s hard to pry great assistants from/beat out for talented recruits. We shouldn’t expect our past to grant us any advantage over other programs. Just have to enjoy the journey… that’s what it’s all about. J34, jermhoosierfan, Pagoda and 1 other 4 Quote

The whole talking over people is reason 20 of why I don't go to bars anymore. LOL Quote

That’s kind of their style. Laid back kind of feel. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. They do a cheers of the night every night on after dark where each takes a drink for their player or coach or the night. Doug and him have work together before and he is on quite frequently. Goodman has a style most don’t like however he has done it for awhile. Comes off as an a$$ most the time however the guy has a ton of sources and is heavily connected in the college basketball world lillurk and Stuhoo 2 Quote

Comes off as an a$$ most the time however the guy has a ton of sources and is heavily connected in the college basketball world There's a long-proven successful style of sports analysis that Goodman squarely fits into: annoying enough to generate dislike, but knowledgeable and interesting enough to make viewers/readers want to tune in to see what he will say next (that might tick them off). It's the Tony Kornheiser, Skip Bayless, Bob Kravitz, Michael Wilbon, Greg Doyle lane. For me? When it goes into 'kinda offensive' like Dakich I'm out. But I know what I'm getting with Goodman and I like it when I'm in the mood for snarky commentary on hoops. lillurk and Uspshoosier 2 Quote
Pagoda Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Dan will say things he knows are wrong or are rumors -- just low character, bad faith nonsense. It's too bad, he actually does know basketball and could be very insightful. But he gets caught up in trying to be some sort of bball oracle that gets listeners with his "shock" takes... just a trashy approach and he is often pretty incoherent when he tries to make points. No surprise he is on the AM dial and his podcast doesn't have many listeners. Dave from Dayton and MemphisHoosier 2 Quote
Popular Post LamarCheeks Posted April 10 Popular Post Posted April 10 Every time I see Goodman now, I can't help but think of a YouTube video he did after we hired D-Rock. He said he was visiting his daughter at IU and had a prearranged meeting with Dolson. This just happened to come soon after the announcement that Woody would not return. "I told him he ought to call T.J. Otzelberger," Goodman said of his chat with Dolson. Offering an athletic director advice on whom to hire for a major job? Takes smug and arrogant to a whole new level. I'm sure Scott said, "Hang on a sec. Lemme write this down. T.J. ... can ya spell that last name for me?" He probably has the kind of relationship with Dolson where he can say stuff like that while Dolson already had that name on his list. Goodman comes off as arrogant like that while I bet the conversation was more of a shoot the sh_t on what is happening then anything else. You have to cut through the act with him to get the meat of what he is saying. I know a lot of people like that. Stuhoo 1 Quote
