Peegs.com sources: Indiana basketball coach Darian DeVries is planning to bring strength coach Ryan Horn with him.

Well looky here!

Horn played college football at East Stroudsburg for one season and at James Madison for two seasons before injuries ended his playing career.

Full bio available at the link below.

There’s a reason for that

Any related info on why he would come. I did see where he and DD coached at Creighton together but why leave Bama when things are rolling there?  Would this be a chance to be our top assistant position?

We just saved $ on backboards with this hire. Literally, our guards could not shoot free throws unless he had red hair.

Yup. It was pretty well regarded that there was a high chance Gordon was going to flip. Then we got a young Travis Steele on the staff and that was icing on the cake as he had a prior relationship with the Gordons.

Jeff Meyer was Eric seniors coach and close friend, Sampson coincidentally added him to his staff and that really helped.

Really tired excuse for poor shooting lol. Multiple examples of shooters improving their percentages from 3.

Let’s see how we shoot moving forward. Obviously our new coach felt much differently than you.

There is some serious smoke to this Preston Murphy stuff.  I'm shocked, but as I said before, there's no loss in it for him at all to consider it

Maybe he doesn’t actually like Oats? Or maybe he really enjoyed working with DeVries and also IU is gonna give him a big pay raise?

Given the amount of money both IU and Bama have available, what a fascinating little turn it would be if a guy basically a year off a show cause became the subject of a bidding war that would probably result in him becoming the highest paid Asst Coach in CBB.

Is that why he had that gap in his asst coaching timeline?

Yup, 2 year show cause while he was at Creighton. Either ‘20 or ‘21.

From The Athletic:

As a player, he and Cuttino Mobley had the Rams on the brink of the Final Four in 1998. He then coached under Dan Hurley — whose Connecticut team Alabama faces Saturday — at Rhode Island, and helped get Oats his first Division I college gig at Buffalo. Later, at Creighton, Murphy helped Greg McDermott build a Big East title team … only to get caught up in the FBI’s investigation into college basketball. Murphy was never charged, but for meeting with agent Christian Dawkins — one of Murphy’s longtime friends from growing up in Saginaw, Mich. — the NCAA hit him with a two-year show-cause penalty.

Coached under McDermott, Hurley, and Oats. Knows how to work with agents and just sounds well connected. Credited with landing 4 and 5 star recruits at Alabama. He would be a really good hire if we can pull him away from the Tide.
