I get why UT could land on Miller, I suppose, if they wanted a guy who’s run a really high profile program and gets that. But, man, it feels like they overvalued that piece and there are definitely better coaches, McCasland being 1 of them.

Heard some national guys say that UT was close to hiring Miller when they were hiring Beard's replacement but then Terry went on a tourney run and they had to give it to him. They really liked Miller at Arizona and maybe feel like they're getting him at a discount after the NCAA stuff.

I haven’t followed the saga. Why would Williard want out of there so bad but two other gainfully employed coaches want to go there? I guess I can see Beard, but it seems like a nearly lateral move for someone like Buzz.

Not sure I have the whole story, but there’s some sort of palace intrigue at Maryland — AD leaving, interim AD seems likely to get the job permanently, Willard seems unhappy with one or both, and additionally grumpy about funding both general program budget and NIL at UMd.

Bball is king at Nova and like other Big East teams, since they’re not going to share nearly as much revenue share with an FCS football team, they’ll probably have larger “payrolls” than all but maybe the highest spenders anywhere else*.

Buzz is a differently wired cat, @Uspshoosier posted a good cbs sports piece that now seems scrubbed from the internet about it. And while TAMU has money, it isn’t necessarily a traditionally strong hoops program to the level of Maryland, would be my guess at his thinking.

*Actually lots of the big spenders strike me as being in the B12/ACC where they’ll have less TV revenue (Duke, UNC, KU). UK and IU might value hoops more than most other B1G/SEC programs.

NIL and basketball resources, Willard wants more and MD has been unwilling

I’m hearing Maryland is down to Turgeon or Brownwell for their vacant coaching position.   I know in these type of searches many think they can pull a big name but these are the most realistic options for Maryland I’m hearing.  Just got to give them shot

You serious, Clark?

Turgeon quit on them 8 games into the season a couple of years ago... and Brownell just signed an extension... that's pretty desperate...

It would be hilarious if Brownell ends up being an actual candidate

Hope he stays in the SEC.  I could easily see Maryland wanting to do this.  Would be a coaching upgrade, and I’m not sure they care about the noise.   Goodman doesn’t have too much of a clue but he makes them seem desperate which is exactly the framework to make this kind of move.

Pete Thamel -

New Mexico has agreed to a five-year deal to make UC San Diego’s Eric Olen the school’s next head coach. He led the school to the 2025 NCAA tournament in its first year it was eligible. He’s gone 51-17 the last two years and won the Big West this year at 18-2.

Good for UNM. That was absolutely the move.

But but but I thought Ben McCollum was the only guy who ever won at a high of a level in D2!!!!!!! Funny I bet the McCollum fan boys on this site probably didn’t even know this guy existed LOL
