Let's hope the Heisman vote isn't any different.

Per Jared Kelly on the Walter Camp award.   Fernando Mendoza received 32 of 51 first-place votes. Diego Pavia was second with nine first-place votes.

I genuinely think if the SEC/ESPN hype machine had coalesced around Pavia a couple of weeks earlier he would have won it. But since even they think the kid is sort of slimy they couldn’t bring themselves to go there in time.

Any truth to the rumors of him wanting to Come back for another season of NIL as a Heisman Winner?  Financially it actually makes some sense if he doesn’t like the NFL locations with top draft picks

Oh my god. That would be fantastic. And with a softer schedule next year we would be primed to represent the conference for a 3rd year in a row.

And agreed it makes financial sense if the right boosters are willing to help.

…..he seriously has to be looking/sniffing at the possibility to stay or go.

Unless IU comes up with about $50 million it doesn’t make much financial sense at all, regardless of how much of a disaster the Browns and Jets are historically.

Rookie contract is roughly 7-8 million per year.

And the wrong team can absolutely ruin a players career and sabotage his second contract.

You may lose a million or two in base salary but if you go to the right team that is going to help you excel you make exponentially more on the second contract.

Cam Ward is guaranteed over $48 million on his rookie deal. Risking over 40 million dollars would be lunacy.

How would he be risking it. He can delay it a year.  And there’s insurance he can buy in case he were to have a career ending injury.

Or he could just go be the #1 pick in the draft now and lock in his generational wealth. Any number of things could happen to change that.

Maybe he’d be better off blowing his draft process so he falls and goes to a better situation because chances are the Jets and Browns and the other s****y teams that have always been s****y will probably be waiting there again next year.

That’s fair.  But jeez it’s going to be really disappointing if one of those Purdue franchises ruins him

This is such an interesting feeling. I keep thinking please, God, keep our kid away from those terrible freaking orgs that will ruin him. Is this the sort of thing Bama and Ohio St fans think about every year or is Mendoza just extra special to us because we have zero experience with this?

I think he’s just extra special in general

Isn't it like the NBA where you want to get to that second contract ASAP because that is where the money is made.  A rookie can negotiate that second contract after the 3rd season I do believe.  If he believes in himself like he seems to, he can get $50+ million a year. He would be kinda crazy to stay
