Penn St. vs Indiana, Sunday, 1/5, Noon, BTN, Palestra in Philly

Recommended Posts

The game is being played in the old 9000 seat arena in Philadelphia named The Palestra. Penn State men’s basketball set to write latest chapter in The Palestra’s rich history | Penn State Men's Basketball News | psucollegian.com   Actually, it is not really at home for PSU.  Kind of like IU playing at The Hinkle Fieldhouse Lite.  Hinkle is much bigger.  And it is in Indiana...the center of the universe for basketball.

Penn State just hosted Northwestern and beat them 84 - 80.    Penn State is now undefeated at home with 9 wins.  They are 12 - 2,   2- 1. Penn State Basketball Wins 'Gutcheck' Big Ten Game Vs. Northwestern

Penn State starting five likely will be Baldwin, Dilione, Johnson, Hicks and Konan Niederhauser.  Dunn and Kern might be the first two off the bench.

Penn State won two regular season games against IU last year.  IU won the game in the B1G Tournament.

Against Northwestern, last night, Penn State jumped into the lead, but Northwestern stayed with them and went ahead.  Penn State turned over the ball 17 times allowing a 'pesky' Northwestern to stay in the game. Northwestern had 16 turnovers.   Northwestern had 30 fouls called against them.  PSU only had 17.   It was tied with seconds to go.

"Forward Zach Hicks led Penn State with 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting, while Baldwin turned in a unique stat line. The Nittany Lions point guard scored 17 points on 1-of-7 shooting, but he made 15 of his 16 free throw attempts while dishing out seven assists. Guard/forward Puff Johnson (11 points) and guard Freddie Dilione V (10 points) each reached double figures, while Konan Niederhauser and guard Nick Kern had nine. Dunn finished with eight."  Per Penn State basketball outlasts Northwestern for 84-80 win in Big Ten play

Neiderhauser is a problem. Just an amazing find by their staff. Penn State plays hard. I’m hearing Reneau is gonna miss time. How does Ballo do on Neiderhauser? I don’t think Hatton can handle him. Then the Rice/Bailey matchup. Will find out how tough Rice is really quick.

I really like PSU this year after watching them a bit.

Speaking of best players...how is Reneau?

Another thread has a post that states some doubt about him playing Sunday.

I recall that 'Doctor' Mgbako related: "It's good, he's doing ok now."

Any word on Reneau's injury/recovery/playing would be appreciated.

A trusted inside source says “gonna miss a bit of time but nothing major”

Take that as you want. My guess is he is out Sunday. Maybe another week. I hope not.

I only watched a little of PSU, but it was them taking Purdue to the wood shed. Very impressive how hard they played. It will take forty minutes of effort like we have not seen to beat them.

This probably won't be pretty. Penn State will make easy work of Indiana. But I know a lot of fans have their hopes up after beating a really bad Rutgers without the best player in the league.
It's really a neutral site game so iu has that going for tgem.

Here in Philly with the fam for a few days. When I bought tix I was surprised the rest didn’t get gobbled up quickly as I thought we had a good chance to make it a neutral crowd at worst. It’s damn cold here but I’ve seen one single person around town wearing an IU hat…then again in our post football hangover none of us have worn any IU gear the past 2 days ourselves. Should be interesting to see the crowd with it being a white out.

That is like saying Indianapolis is neutral.

Not.

The Bryce Jordan center on campus has a seating capacity of over 16,500.  They have yet to hit 10,000 this year.  Their last conference game against Northwestern had 5,500 fans.  Penn State basketball is not a draw even when the team is good.

It's 9000 seating. I bet at least half the fans will be iu fans or more. Prove me wrong tomorrow. Penn state doesn't draw fans but iu does. It's off campus so iu fans can grab up tickets easy. Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk
