Definitely have some talent strolling through.

Would be curious what “no self imposed limitations” looks like as a NIL balance sheet. Lol.

I'd love more intel on NIL, it's so important but it's hard to get data points and it's fluid in nature.  I'd guess we're now middle of the conference, maybe just below that, which is big progress from being one of the bottom teams a little over a year ago.

I'm also curious how we allocate the $22M rev share to the various sports.

Brandon Cisse & Tamarcus Cooley? Our whole staff + Weaver follow them on X. Both from NC state

Guess it’s fair to assume the staff liked the NC State secondary.

How many corners do we need? Cisse was a starting CB for them and Cooley was the nickel.

We have one transferring out.

Seems we are interested in at least 1 more (could be multiple targets for spot).  Might also mean someone we think is a corner may move over to safety.

Coach Haines has shown an an aptitude for moving players around to best suite their skillset and team need- see JMF to Edge.  I think your hypothesis is spot on @Hurryin' Hoosiers

Christain Harrison (Tennessee) fits that bill.  Entered college as a safety and Tennessee moved him to corner.

With the new rules I doubt many programs will have 2 quality options at QB.

Yeah, teams with highly regarded true freshman have had a hard time getting top tier QBs — Nebraska last year with Raiola, Michigan this offseason with Underwood coming in. Michigan got a pretty good player but folks still think Underwood will usurp him at some point during the season even if he doesn’t win the job in camp.

I wonder about a significant up-transfer; pretty sure MSU had a guy like that as a backup this year. Someone who’s played in FCS or something?

Yeah, not saying he has to be of that high quality. But somebody who’s played at lower levels and can run the offense if our primary guy goes down.
Who’s our #2 right now?

Anybody hitting those marks is likely going to have an NIL deal somewhere to start

With Cherry now questionable, there’s gotta be a Jack Tuttle type who is willing to take more $ to be a backup than starting for Sam Houston St. I’m not asking for much in terms of talent…weren’t we just linked to the WSU QB before he decided to return?

Maybe not

Assuming Cherry is out next season, the depth chart at QB:

  1. F. Mendoza
  2. A. Mendoza
  3. Bell

An experienced backup would be very welcome.

I think Alberto Mendoza is #2 right now.  Yet to be seen who is #2 when Tyler Cherry is healthy but sounds like he could be out awhile.

The # of roster able players is changing.  NCAA changed it to 105 players which is about 20 less than now BUT they didn't put a limit of the number of those players that are on scholarship, so a team could put 105 on scholly.  The SEC is sticking to the 85 scholarship limit....not sure what the Big Ten is doing.

That goes into effect next season, right?

I think that even though they don't all have to be on scholarship, they do all have to get some profit share or something like that. I thought no more walk-ons. They can also do partial scholarships, it'll no longer be a headcount sport.

That the SEC is limiting it to 85 scholarships is probably because to increase the number of football scholarships they'd also need to increase the number of women sport scholarships and/or cut scholarships in other men's sports due to Title IX.
