Nah — we’re getting him nice looks. In fact, Goode has had some truly  delicious open looks and has missed and missed.

But he is as proven a commodity as it gets as a wing shooter. The team is at a solid 35.3% from three and Goode will very likely end up well above the team average.

I agree, but I still think it’s more our offense and the fact we still play everything through the post and mostly everyone else stands around with a few occasional cuts through!

So you agree!!!

No. I think the opposite actually. Offense is generating looks, multiple guys are making, Goode simply can’t get his shot to fall. Actually don’t agree with 99.9% of the things you spout but to each their own.

We clearly don’t play through the post to the extent we have the past few years (and certainly not “everything” through the post).

Not a resume or season defining win by any means

Too early to say either way if it’s a resume building  win or not.   Just will have to wait and see how SC does in the rest of their games and how they finish in the SEC.  Last year no one had them as a tourney team to begin the year but they just kept winning.    My guess when it’s all said and done it will be a solid home Q2b win.  Never know though if they clip off some high end SEC teams at home that could sneak into the Q2a or even Q1b territory with some luck.   Thursday game is an important game.   UNC Greensboro is a solid mid major program and playing them right before the Atlantis trip could be tricky.

Agree. A 16 point win against SC will only help the resume, certainly won’t hurt it.

Our ball movement was good today; we had several 3 looks and Goode has to hit those. Our guard play much better; a returning starter I don’t believe got any smell. Carlyle is more athletic than I thought and with more experience can be really good. Ballo accepts his role as defender and rebounder mostly and that’s good to see. I think Hattie should be getting more minutes early as we may need him later in the Big. Nice game today.

Did you watch the game? We play almost nothing out of the low post this year. Our bigs get touches at the elbow extended high post. That’s very different than last year.

Yeah , because Rice scored 23, Mgbako 17, Trey 11and Reneau was on the bench the last 6-8 minutes of the game. Yep, that’s running everything through the post.

Smh.

Add in Carlye’s  12 points while Ballo (you know, the 5 that we run everything through) took a total of TWO shots.

There is plenty to critique but thinking this is the same offense that continuously pounded the ball to TJD, while wings stood like statues watching him either operate within 2 feet of the basket or make a pass out of the post,  is almost funny.

Goode is a bust... supposedly a sharp-shooter from 3, but only hitting a measly 2 of 7 (28.5%).

It's a bit early in the season to be calling him a bust. He's a career 38% 3-point shooter at a B1G school. So it's not like he's making a jump up in competition.

It's a small number of samples so every make or miss makes a huge difference in percentage. 3 of 7, for example, is almost 43%. Would you be complaining if he had that percentage coming into this game? Yes, 2 of 10 now isn't very good but shooters can be streaky. I'm sure he'll find his shot, probably sooner than later and end up at a percentage consistent with his career so far.

I would also say that he was talked about as being a good 3-point shooter, not a sharp-shooter.

So I haven't watched him at IL.  But was he a stand in the corner 3 point shoot or did he come of screens and shoot in rythym?  Could be the difference?

Solid game.  Lots of good.  Some bad.  We did let them hang around which if a few things went their way we'd be looking at a L or a 2-4 point victory.  While we are definetly improved against unranked type team, I have two concerns:  1) our tendancy to "play down" to our competition, at least for a half or so, and 2) how we are going to match the intensity of the top teams.  Last year we go smoked by Uconn and Auburn; Kansas was close.  Same as year before.  Other than Atlantis, we have no marquee non-conference match ups.  We may not know how we stack up for some time.

If (IF) we play Louisville, Gonzaga and Arizona in the Bahamas we will learn a bit.
Really need to beat the Ville to stay in the winners bracket as I agree that the rest of the ooc schedule is rather sub-optimal (polite way of saying it’s sh!te).

Yes and no. While an exhibition, the game against UT was played hard on both ends, both teams fought for the win in the second and we matched them well and won on the road. It doesn’t “count” but it did show a team that can match a legit quality team, UT is good.We looked more like that game tonight.
